A good question for this scenario I came up with was, if the truck were totaled in an accident and insurance was cutting a check for an exact replacement at zero out of pocket; would you? Or would you think about trying something else and maybe be even a little relieved to get out of jail free?

I saw a video once that combined those concepts. I was impressed when she correctly rowed the gears on the upshift, but the clutchless transition from 6 to 3 mid-switchback was something else...

Some of y'all have entirely too much dexterity down there.

It’s like a riding lawn mower does its job but you’re glad you’re not pushing it. A to B but the truck does have A/C!!

The good thing is the resale is great on Tacoma's. If you don't like it trade it in on something you do. Life's too short to drive something you don't enjoy.

Go test drive all the new trucks and buy what you like the best. I hope you find something you really enjoy.

    Itz JDM tyte, yo!
No. I do accept it has some flaws though.

The manual is its saving grace. Otherwise, I would have something with a V8.

The 3rd gen Tacoma is a 30k vehicle that Toyota gets away with charging 45k for.

But 3/4 of the people that post here can't stomach the fact that these trucks suck in some ways.

Being realistic about these issues pushes the upset button on too many people on here.

I found I like my truck more the less I read posts about other peoples experiences in their Tacoma.

I have had my 23 for going on 7 months now. Best modification was the OTT tune, I also love my Injen intake. I love the truck! It’s raw and to the point. It may not have many thrills but does its job very well. If it’s not for you, get something else. They hold their value incredibly well and generally last forever.

Before social media I’d buy a vehicle and just enjoy it. Oblivious to everyone else’s experience.

Now when I buy a vehicle I immediately get on the forums and look up all the common problems and convince myself I’m driving a ticking time bomb. It’s a toxic experience.

Coming from a TRD Pro Tundra, zero regrets. Good luck.

Some people ask me about buying a Tacoma, and I tell them, honestly, "Ya ain't cut out to own a Tacoma."

I just think people come in with the wrong expectations. All this talk about the engine and what not. Like, it’s a midsize truck. I don’t expect v8 power from it. Aside from the noisy engine and annoying transmission I think it’s great.

The one complaint is that the side rear-view mirrors suck for backing up a trailer. They are wide enough to see both sides of my 6x10 enclosed trailer, but when it looks you are going straight on one side it is actually a little crooked. You have to keep looking back and forth to keep it straight.

I have a lot of experience backing trailers and am quite good at it. But these mirrors make it considerably more difficult. I am looking at getting some strap on mirrors to use when I am backing the trailer up next to the detached garage out back where I park it. It's a tricky endeavor that most people wouldn't even attempt. It was a lot easier with an F-150 I had before just because of the mirrors.

Other than that, my truck has all the power I need and the transmission shifts just fine as far as I'm concerned. It's all stock except for the step bars and tailgate lock I added. It's a Sport Premium so it drives great on the road and has all the creature comforts that I like. For a truck, it drives a lot like a car is very enjoyable as a daily driver.

My wife drives a 4Runner Limited, and if I was willing to give up the bed, I would probably trade for one of those just for the comfort factor. As it is, for my needs I haven't found anything I like better than the Tacoma. If and when I do, I will trade it in for whatever vehicle that is.

The bed is a big thing for me. I would have definitely went 4Runner if I didn’t need the bed.

I think the Tacoma drives great. It’s exponentially nicer than the RAV4 TRD I traded in for it. Ride quality, cabin noise, utility, etc. I like it a lot. The RAV4 had more tech, but you don’t buy a Tacoma for the tech. ‍
