    Howdy folks,

My dream taco is still sitting at the dealership over the past 10 weeks, with no remedy yet.

Maybe a long shot, but I am wondering if any folks here work for Toyota, at Toyota, or have some magical connection to Toyota, and have ANY idea, clue, or rumour, when a remedy might become available?

    My dealership has no idea.

    Thanks,

    Jonn

    Issue:
On certain vehicles, the steering wheel spiral cable assembly could disconnect. If this happens, the airbag (SRS) warning lamp would turn on, and the driver-front airbag wouldn't work in a crash. This may also cause the horn or other steering wheel-mounted controls not to work properly.

    Safety Risk:
An airbag that doesn't work properly could increase the risk of injury in a crash.

    Corrective Actions:
Toyota will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect the production date of the spiral cable assembly, and replace it if necessary.

Did the steering wheel actually change in 2023 or did they just go to a cheaper supplier? Seems weird to have this recall so late in a models run.

Interesting….I notice my wheel makes noises and clicks when turning. I’ve replaced them twice on my 2nd gen. That sound is the cheap plastic housing creaking.

The recall is for Canada, could there possibly be anything different than the US version? Seems really weird that this would happen at the end of the production run for Gen 3’s.

Probably identified a manufacturing issue/part used at one of the 3 plants for Canada. If the part/assembly is an issue, and is used elsewhere, it will expand. It hasn’t been enough time for enough to fail perhaps…..yet. The clock spring was an issue in the second gen, but mine took 8 years to fail.

    Unfortunately, it's a North American-wide recall:

    https://pressroom.toyota.com/toyota...ander-tacoma-and-lexus-rx-and-2024-nx-models/

    Over 110,000 vehicles possibly affected.

The manufacturer of the cable identified possible contaminants in the weld components, increasing the possibility of failure - or something like that. I'll try to find the link to it.

So until a remedy is approved by Toyota, my taco is taking a long nap at the dealership.

I hope they at least have you in a decent loaner in the meantime.

I got my 2023 Taco in June, and saw the recall about 3 weeks later on the Toyota app. I got an official mailing from Toyota last week. Fortunately, I don’t see/hear any issues, and am waiting for an official “resolution”. (The estimate of the remedy is August, 2023…)

Unfortunately, no loaner for me - because I legally don’t own the car - the dealership was not able to transfer ownership to me since there was a “stop sale” order on any vehicle in the recall list.

    I am sad :(

It’s sitting there with my name on it, I’m hoping I’ll own it soon, but sad to see the summer and fall go away before I can hit the local trails.

I suppose there are worse problems in life.

I’m not sure what this means - but I am certainly hoping the remedy will be announced soon.

Yea they can't sell anything with an outstanding recall. Hopefully you still have wheels to get around. Hope it works out soon.
