I didn't see that in the link for recalls.

My truck was built in Mexico and there are no recalls for my VIN.

Sounds like it's the clock spring. It's the ribbon in the steering column that absorbs all of the back and forth when you turn. If you ever wondered how the buttons on the wheel connect to the rest of the truck while being able to spin, that's how.

Edit: this should help y'all visualize it.

    Sigh.

    It's been 11 weeks...

No word of a remedy yet...

So a couple of nights ago, I decided to stop waiting and look for another Taco. I was lucky enough to find a TRD Pro at a local dealership and within 36 hours it was sitting in my driveway.

I hope the remedy is released soon, for any of you who are adversely affected by the recall.

Just found out about this, I have a 2006, and from what I’ve read the airbag light should come on due to the bad clockspring? Mine hasn’t. Everything works except for the cruise control. Which my SR5 trim states it does have CC. So would I be eligible for a recall? Really trying not to spend $250 on a new clockspring

Received a recall notice this past week that my vin number was identified to possibly have the bad harness. Not sure if I want to take it in to the dealership if they are going to keep it until they have a solution. What are my rights in this situation? TIA.

This is a 3rd gen thread.

Your year had a spiral cable recall on some trim levels. If your VIN is in the range identified in the DOT filing, then it is covered by the recall: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2012/RCDNN-12V092-9678.pdf

Another way is just to plug your VIN into the Toyota recall web page and see if there are outstanding recalls against it: https://www.toyota.com/recall

Beware if everything works except the cruise control, the defect may in fact be elsewhere, like a bad switch (the cruise control stalk) or bad wiring.

Just ran into this myself. Had my '23 Tacoma in for the Evaporator TSB, and while they were doing the final check drive after that, they had the Spiral Cable fail. So my truck is a few more days as they replace both Spiral Cable and Steering Angle Sensor.
