Hey guys, new here. I bought my 2023 Tacoma SR model brand new a year and a half ago. Just wondering about android auto. It seems my SR model doesn't have it as I can only connect it with bluetooth. I tried plugging it in to the dash USB but the android auto app on my phone doesnt recognize anything and even though the phone charges, it doesn't prompt anything further to connect the android auto feature. I guess my truck doesn't have it. Just wondering if there's anyone else in the same situation trying for easy solutions if there are any. Thanks!

I had that same issue when I first got my 2020. It turned out that I needed a better USB cord to connect my Android phone to the dash USB port. I bought an Anker (forget the exact model number) cord and it's been working perfectly for almost 5 years now.

    I'd try a good quality USB-c cord.

I tried 5 different cords now, still no luck. I'm beginning to think android auto isn't installed. Should there be an icon in the setup menu? It seems like my truck doesn't have it

Honestly I got fed up with the stock stereo and replaced it. it cost me about $500 but man the new one is so much better and it comes with maps and all the android auto awesomeness. I went through Crutchfield and got all the cables, connectors and the computer thingy that maps your all your feature buttons on the steering wheel. It took me around 1.5hrs to replace, medium easy.

You just plug in you make model etc of your truck and then it will tell you which systems will fit and then offer you options for wiring harness ect. The one I selected plugs into the ODB2 port and gives me more data and any error codes

https://www.crutchfield.com/ US site... there is a canadian site to .ca

Thanks, that might have to be the route I take eventually, however there a nice few things I want to do to the truck before that. I was hoping there might of been something easier for the time being.

You need to get a data cable, not just a charging cable.

    There is a difference.

OP, check that the "Start Android Auto automatically" setting in your phone's Android Auto app is set to "Always," and that "Start Android Auto while locked" is enabled, as well as checking the vehicle's Android Auto settings. If these steps don't work, consider using the Android Auto app's "Connect to Car" option, or try restarting your car's infotainment system.

I had my truck for two years before I figured it out. One day the kid gets in and needs to charge his phone. He gets his cable out of his car and plugs it in. All of a sudden apple car play opens up, he uses apple. The light went off. We went to Verizon and and got a data cable, I plugged in my Android and it worked.

It was such a simple fix.

Now that I know for sure that it works, I may contimplate the wireless option since it seems to have more options with available apps. It would be cool if I could have a netflix movie on for passangers while driving. I see the wireless adapters have that mirror feature and I see Netflix up on the screen - just not sure if they can use it while driving... probably not, but still. Either way, it looks way better now that I have it working. Thanks again
