You can hold the button down to start it without hitting the brake. But it's like 10 seconds so easier to just hit the brake.

Not if you turn off FOB or keep it in protective box or case... so that thief can't clone.

Yes... and useful tip for winter months:

If you live in the area have snow/icy winter, there are other lines on bottom of handle as well since ice/snow cover the top part.

Which way had you been trying it? I tend to forget there's a bottom sensor and never use it.

can’t say for sure but I was mainly trying to just touch the top.
    Top and bottom worked consistently.

    I’ll call this user error

You don't need to use both top and bottom at once.. You can use one of them. If top part not working due ice or something, you can use bottom part.

Try touching just the bottom. I always use just the top sensor. Perhaps you have a sensor issue that the dealership needs to address.

After having ~25 cars/trucks ranging from the late 70s to my 19 Tacoma, love the push button start. Have a shit ton of keys on my keychain so hate taking keys out of my pocket.

Love my "push to start" option although 2 of my other vehicles has a key it don't bother me.

I don't recall any of my 1970's Toyotas having 2 keys, I think that was a GM thing. I do remember the ignition on my 70's Corolla being so loose the keys would fall out around corners!
Apart from power brakes, I really don't miss any of the power options on new cars.
I do believe keyed ignitions are less prone to theft.

None of my 70's toyotas used 2 different keys either. I know GM did. Might have been only them.

I am not sure how I feel about the push to start. One rental car had it and I was just used to a key you put in a and turn. I would go to that car with key in hand push the fob button to unlock it, get in then look for where to put the key then remember the button and then put the keys in the cup holder.

I’ve heard about the cloned key theft thing in Canada. Yeah I know you can turn off the fob but that’s an extra thing I have to do I don’t have to do with my sr5 key to insure my truck isn’t stolen. I don’t think it’s happened in the US yet but wait soon it probably will.

I don’t see why turning a key is so hard. It’s only one key not two like GM used to be. We still have a 96 Chevy van at work that still has the 2 keys in use lol.
I’m for keeping some things simpler. Backup cameras, keyless entry, android auto and other things are nice but what happens in ten years when the door handle sensor goes bad? What happens when the door needs replacement due to a minor accident how much more difficult will the part be to find and will special programming be needed.

I realize it’s all the future and more and more things are going this way and I’ll accept them except electronic parking brakes, those are stupid.
Things will never be like the cars I grew up with and learned to drive in with plain metal keys, crank windows, no ac, no air bags heck we didn’t even have shoulder belt in the back seats.

Ford used 2 keys into the mid '90's. Chrysler use 2 keys depending on who actually made thier cars... Chrysler build were 2 key into the late '80's and Mitsubishi built usually had 1 key.

Yes twisting a key is so hard on my wrist. Wonder how they deal with a push button start and a manual trans?

Now if we can get Heated Seats as an add-on and not part of a Premium Package that would be great! Miss having a toasty bum on cold winter days.

My understanding is that is an option in Canada even on sr5.

My 2010 Mazda3 had push to start on a manual transmission. Instead of having to have your foot on the brake, the clutch had to be depressed for it to start. I think the whole Clutch Start Cancel system is why they don't put it on manuals in the Tacoma. I think they could make it work, they just didn't want to spend the time or money to develop it.
