OK, the following may be symptoms of the Tacoma transmission issues that have been discussed here before but please bear with me as I'm practically a brand new owner.
First question, is it normal when coasting to a stop and the transmission is downshifting, to feel a vibration and almost a 'rough shutter?' Initially, I thought it might be the road, but it happens frequently.
Secondly, during that same 'coasting,' the light turns green and I start to accelerate. At certain times the transmission actually slips a bit before finding its gear. Are these issues normal?

it doesn't make it right, and I can't explain it, but that is normal for a 2023 with an auto trans. Mine does it, and many people here will say the same.

That's a shame. Such a great truck otherwise. It's extremely irritating, especially while in stop and go traffic.

Mine does this too, it’s a Toyota thing. This is my 4th Toyota truck and they all had some type of driveline vibration. You’ll get used to it.

The coasting then struggling to find the gear happened to me all the time. Got a tune and the shifting issues are gone. It’s worth looking into.

There is a tsb to fix this issue. My brand 2023 sr5 with 44 miles has zero vibrations when slowing down on the way home tonight’s. My 2022 did though.

This is the torque converter is being locked up staring in 3rd and causing this sensation.
This is normal, but very annoying. Can be fixed with a tune.

The various sport settings and the ECT Power button are fun to mess with. Transmission isn’t it’s best point, but it sure adds character! Not giving a shit is another great approach I use too.

Get it tuned. It’ll solve the issues.

And if it don’t, I’ve got a 3rd gen auto trans in my garage with low miles, if ya need it.

As the others have said, unfortunately it’s normal.

It actually started an argument once between my wife and I because she swore I was slamming on the brakes and making the truck lurch to mess with her. She literally didn’t believe me that the truck just drives like that.

I got a tune and it drives like a dream now.

So....the tune everyone is talking about. Is it the Overland? Or are there others out there as well?

There are a bunch of them, I personally have the KDMax tune. I absolutely love it. It’s expensive but I would say it’s hands down the best money I’ve spent on the truck.

I’m sure the other tunes are good as well, but that’s the only one I have experience with.

Any tunes can tune out torque converter management in low gears/speeds. However, there are nuances that you should be aware.

Also, 2nd and 3 rd gear, if I recall correctly , have the same downshift speed at 0 accelerator. So you can drop 2 gears while coasting and experience the shudder issues.
