The thing about auto A/C dual climate controls, it's not just that is very expensive but it's full of chips that are in short supply so you maybe waiting a while on a replacement part. And while waiting you maybe subject to hot & cold flashes and get to know how she really feels.

It's a good thing TOYOTA builds chit to last, unless of course you happen to be "that guy" lol!

The purpose of dual climate control is to let one passenger have warmth while the other has cooling, if desired. It’s not to get one side of the truck to 90° and the other half 60° with no barrier between them. Obviously that isn’t possible. A lot of people screw up the use of auto/dual climate also. The moment you change fan speed or vents selected, it no longer is operating as it seems. The best way to use it is to pick a temp and let it go. I keep mine on sync (both sides same temp) 99% of the time and only have that changed if a passenger is cold.

As for reliability, it’s not any more likely to break than the other completely electronic non-dual/auto climate control. They’re both using the same blend door actuators and such, just one has a few temp sensors to measure temp so it can decide what air temp and speed to blow. I suppose if worried about the sensors, then there is a very small reliability boost in the non automatic/dual version, but otherwise they’re basically the same system and one just has more features. Neither is unreliable at all and both have the same likelihood of the control panel going bad.

On the flip side, choosing a temp and letting it do the rest is a Godsend compared to manually controlling fan speed and temp constantly. On manual systems I’m always messing with it. On auto I’m just rolling the knob to the Fahrenheit temp I want and otherwise leave it alone.

Hmmm, dueling zones in a climate control system might well be ineffective. :duel:
I love all of these arguments whining about fixing a broken dual zone climate control system; this is the same argument folks use against power windows, and both are red herrings.

Just get the Sport. It’s worth the little extra money and if things don’t work out and you want or need to sell it you will be happy that you went in that direction.
