Had the same issue the other day. Batt showed 11.6V when I tested it. Its a NOV2022 OEM batt. Temps were around 20F a few days before and I didn't run the car for 3 days. Jumped, drove for a while, all ok again.

I have a Battery Tender that I plug in if I don’t drive every few days. I also plug it in if the low temps are to be in the teens or lower.

I drive our FJ when storms hit

This, I'm still on my original batteries in both my 2015 Taco and 2016 Honda. And both are just fine. I do desulfate on a regular basis and NEVER let them get low if not in use for awhile. There is always some currant draw on a modern vehicle even when off. If I could buy Panasonic batteries in the US, I'd buy those over the drek they make or sell, especially with ''recycled'' battery lead which is worthless stuff.

If I'm not driving it daily, it's on a battery tender.

The factory Panasonic battery on the 08 FJ lasted eight years. Definitely would buy one if I could

AGM battery vs existing battery. I’ve just read up on this and I wonder is there any charging system changes that needs to be made or has Toyota already accounted for it?

    padded.
They say you should use an alt booster in the fuse to alternator. There are several good videos on the at YouTube

Battery Tender went on yesterday around 5:30 PM. It's now 7:15 AM. That's 13 hours and 45 minutes, give or take.
The DelTran has a four cycle charging system.

    COMPLETE 4-STEP CHARGING

Smart charger technology assures the correct level of power is sent to the battery at all times.
    1. Initialization determines if the battery is connected correctly and battery’s charge level, composition - Flashing Red Light
    2. Bulk Charge brings the charge up with full charge and constant current - Solid Red Light
    3. Absorption Mode slows the charging down until the battery reaches full charge - Flashing Green Light
    4. Float/Maintenance Mode keeps the battery charged without overcharging or discharging Solid Green Light

The red light is still solid indicating that it hasn't completed the Bulk Charge Mode. I would have expected a battery with 12.75 volts in it to have completed by now. According to this chart 12.75 is FULL. Maybe it would have spent 3 to 6 hours normalizing across the cells in the battery but 13+ hours feels like too much.

    upload_2024-1-27_7-17-48.png

That means there is one hell of a parasitic draw, or I'm starting to lean away from the alternator and towards a bad battery. Like it takes a charge but has an internal short in the battery somewhere.

I'm still drinking coffee this AM and getting ready for the day so we'll leave it on a little longer but I'm thinking that tonight, I'm disconnecting the battery and charging it w/o the potential parasitic draw effecting it.

I had a premature failure on my 2018 battery the first year. I replaced it with an optima yellow top and never looked back.

I didn’t want to mess around with warranty and getting another crap battery.

You've either got a battery with an internal short or a faulty charging system.
    (New batteries do go bad)

Just pulled the charger off of it. Was at 13.2v right after and then fell pretty quick to 12.4 as the battery normalized out. Letting it sit for a few minutes and going back to check.

Neighbor saw the hood up and came by. Mentioned he had an interstate battery do the same thing because the guy at the shop over torqued he battery tie down and actually caused the short. He looked at mine and thought the same thing. A little plastic deformity around the clamp / tie down. Who knows....

I’ve had good luck with the EverStart Maxx line from Walmart in other vehicles. Has a great warranty. They’re all made by the same few companies. Generally a good battery should last 3-5 years. Climate is what kills them, usually. Heat is worse than cold from what I understand. Anyway, this is the H7 Platinum AGM oversized battery in my 23 Trail. I did modify the bracket a little. I also use a charger to top off every fews weeks at 14.7 volts or so.

my OEM battery did not fail, I wanted something better for the accessories.

Surprised to see people state all oem toyota batteries are crap. I've had the opposite experience. All my recent. toyota batteries have been great.
    2007 tundra, lasted 9 years
    2008 4runner, sold at 6 years 118k w original battery
    2013 rav4, battery lasted 7 years.

I got a toyota oem replacement cheaper than a Walmart battery for the tundra, and it was fine when I sold it years after and barely being used.

I love the toyota batteries in my experience.

    that's 2nd gen and before
3rd gen needs a Tuner to hack the computer that controls the alternator

I would recommend not altering the alternator output. I am tuned but choose not to do this. I have it on good authority that this has a negative impact on voltage regulation throughout the various ECU’s and can cause premature failures. Better to use a tender. Batteries are cheap in comparison.

Bulb life is affected as well.
Best to simply put it on a charger once a week to get the battery fully charged, if an AGM battery is such a needed item.

I’d stick to buying only Toyota genuine batteries from your dealership I think they are really well made
