    Hello,
I just bought a new 2023 Tacoma SR four door 2wd 2.7L. I have 5400 miles on it and the dealer says I go 10000 miles on then new ones with the synthetic oil. I just sold my 07 that I put 300k on with the same engine but I changed it every 5000 miles with conventional oil. I want this one to last as long. Some people are telling me 5000 miles. The dealer says 10k. Which is it?

I wouldn't go any more than 5k, the manufacturer will tell you 10k.
I think about it this way, they only have to be responsible for it until it's out of warranty and they also want to claim low cost of maintenance/ownership so they extend oil change intervals and other maintenance as far as they can without having alot of warranty claims.

You can't hurt anything by changing it sooner but you can develop sludge and varnish by going too long.

Do what you want. But if it's a brand new engine personally I would do changes at 5k.

And I believe all 0W20 oils are synthetic anyway.

Oil change intervals are known to cause arguments and such be it on TW or in the motor oil aisle of the store..tread carefully lol

Yes, all of 0w-20 oils are synthetic. Have to have a synthetic base oil to meet the spec, additive packages and viscosity modifiers are not enough.

I used Castrol GTX conventional oil on my last one and it worked out well. I'm going to do Castrol GTX full synthetic and Fram filter on this one.

You made 300k miles by changing every 5000 miles. Why would you consider more ?

    First welcome!
You may not know, but as with everywhere else, oil change threads become a shit-show. Everyone's way of doing it, is the right way.
It's cheap insurance to change early, how early is up to you.

What do you mean by "worked out well"?
Also, Fram filters have been demonstrated to be garbage for previous generations, and I doubt that business model has changed. The OEM filters have proven to be very effective in filtration and cost.

All this stuff is easily found on TW and teh webz if you'd like more details.

toyota pays for the first 2 oil changes at their 10K intervals. For my '21 4 runner I did 7500 intervals for the first 2 free oil changes.

Oil change interval threads. It must be Friday.

Check Amazon. I get OEM Yota filters in cases of 10 (wife's 4cyl RAV4 and V6 Taco use the same filter), works out to $5 each.

Note that the OP has a 2.7l engine, so that is not the correct filter. He wants the regular spin on filter.
