Don't forget that it's a pile of dog shit that was shaped (albeit poorly) to resemble a Tacoma. I guess as they say, imitation is the greatest form of flattery.

    lol!

Fact: TOYOTA Tacoma is the leader, the best selling mid size truck, that everyone else is trying to overthrow from the throne.

They got to be the leaders not by giving people everything they want, but by giving them a tool they can afford and need, with the durability and reliability to last long after the others have bit the dust.

News flash! Automotive engineers know more than people about how their products work. Shocker, I know.

People think disc brakes are better and they are for some operational applications, but not all.

Disc brakes are more prone to noise and vibration due to warping. You wouldn’t believe the issued they’ve had to deal with ever since they became standard and are still are dealing with every day.
Right here in this forum, not many days go by, when a new truck owner complains about front wheel shuttering/vibration when applying the brakes. That’s not a TOYOTA fault, it’s the nature of the beast. Drum brakes? Nada, zero zip!

My T4R always stays garaged, and after I wash it and go move it the next day, the brakes stick, shocker. One time real bad and that’s the best SUV ever made.
On the other hand, my truck with rear drum brakes stays outside in high humidity weather 24/7, cold and hot, no issues ever.
So maybe it’s your operating environment or defect and not the truck?

You want LED, hood struts and front cameras?
What do you do out in the woods when you may need to open the hood and the struts don’t work? Chop a wood stick? I hope you brought a hatchet/machete along with everything else you need out there.

And a front camera where it gets full of mud in the swamps? Oh I get it, it’s for parking right? well, news flash, I’ve been driving and parking for over 40yrs, and didn’t know I needed one. And I don’t need to spend money for repairs when it goes out either.

And in the final news flash of the post, TOYOTA is does not need to step up the game, others are trying to keep up with the game.

    Give me a break, lolo!

Booooy even tho I didn't end up picking up a Pro4x. My number one choice was a diesel gladiator. Soooo glad didn't pull that trigger. Felt cool test driving them around tho. Instant 35s would have been nice too.

There is probably a lot of people on this forum who don't own and have never owned a Tacoma of any generation. They show up on all popular forums just to seed doubt and start arguments. It's a sad, pathetic existence.......

Last work trip they tried to give me a Tacoma for a rental, kinda boring. So I took a Gladiator instead, less than 10k miles and already a rattletrap, terrible seats, tail light out and fairly gutless.

I'd buy a Wrangler for a weekend fun project but no way in hell I'd own a Jeep for anything remotely close to a daily driver.

This might be new's for you, but drum breaks are also prone to warping. They are also more prone to develop warping when new due to manufacturing. Toyota has had tsb's in the past on their trucks sent out with bad drum's.

The only thing that’s news to me is when I find a consumer that knows more about how to best build a solid affordable vehicle than the engineers.

Nothing wrong with disc brakes, but there are short comings. Ask any engineer and they’ll tell you, everything is subject to compromise.

And as for me, I like disc brakes for their virtues. But there’s absolutely nothing wrong with the rear drum/front disc In the Tacoma truck I drive.

However, for those customers that need to constantly complain that the other trucks have them (all disc) so there must be something wrong with mine, the customer is always right, so there’s that

Yep, sounds about right. Also a lot of those folks sold their Tacoma but decided to stay here and constantly talk smack about the 3rd gen.

I was burned with a Nissan transmission, never again. Don’t they call Nissan the Dodge of the imports?

I’ve rented Frontiers twice for vacation rentals. One was a ProX and one an SV. They are nice trucks. The engine and transmission is great. It gets good mpg. The interior is nice and comfortable. Anyone that says they are POS’s clearly hasn’t driven one or is too much a Toyota fan boy to admit the Frontier is a nice truck. A Pro4X will most likely be my next truck unless someone else comes out with something better. It doesn’t seem like Toyota is going to be that someone either.

Why not get both? I mean buy a new Taco on a 5 year note, pay it off.
Wait 5 more years, buy the Datsun.
Because in 10 years it will look exactly like the current one, because it will be the exact same truck.

And still use 90% of the same components used since 2003.

    Win win.

There's a lot of unnecessary hate for the Frontier.

I would take the last-gen MT and clutch from the Frontier over my 22' Tacoma without hesitation.

The Frontier also offers better tech in the form of its screen, ergonomics, and speakers. The design looks great. It doesn't matter that it's "trying" to look like a Tacoma. I think the Fronter looks better.

However, the strong aftermarket, mod options, and value are why you go with Tacoma and spend extra money for a tune to improve driveability.

Agreed. And by the time you get the Frontier all the kinks will be worked out.

Great post. The frontier looks great and they were going for an updated hardbody style. If you look closely, you can see it. I never thought it was a Tacoma clone. The front end looks great while Toyota is going to these huge grills. It’s the 4th year of the new power train and they are tough trucks. Nissan had the strawberry milkshake of death from 05-10 but outside of that the Frontier has always been known for reliability. I had a frontier, my wife has one, and I have a Tacoma. I love my truck but people shitting on the Frontier are the same people who complain about a lack of power or want their trucks to drive like sports cars. The frontiers are workhorses. There’s nothing wrong with them. I may snag one in a couple of years.

Did you have 05-10 model with the strawberry milkshake of death? It’s terrible that Nissan blew that off for so long. Then again Toyota has frames that fall apart. Every manufacturer has issues.

Getting to the subject of other manufactures, i just returned from some grocery shopping. I came out of the store to find a cement gray new bronco parked next to my truck. While taking a good look of it. some items looked cheap especially the wheels plus it appear smaller and lower parked next to my truck. I'd rate it as a trim similar to my sr5. To tell you the truth it looked even cheaper built. Idk if ford is now producing lower trim bronco's from the last i saw at a ford dealer, but this one appeared like the econo model of bronco's.

That sounds like a reason not to go with Toyota, at least for sane people.
