The only reason I wouldn’t want a push start button is because of how the manufacturers never came with good security around that. I know you can leave your key fob in a metal box, install an aftermarket alarm, etc., but models with a push button are so easy to steal…

    I’m glad I got a manual transmission.

(before someone tells me how traditional key turn ignition and manual transmission vehicle can also be stolen, I know that when someone wants something, they’ll figure out how to get it - there’s probably less risk someone will steal one because it’s a bit more work)

Just FYI in case you weren't aware, it seems Toyota might have quietly allowed the fob remote start to keep working after the subscription ends. I know other people have posted on here that there's still works after the subscription ends and my key fob has been working for five months now after my subscription ended (and I actually did pay the $80 for the second year - now I'm not since the key keeps working).

Three lock button presses with final press holding down should remote start your truck without the app.

If the pandemic wasn’t a thing I might be tempted to get a 2023 to prolong the manual driving years, but it would be a pain to convert everything over to a new truck. I can’t see paying MSRP (or more) for the same thing.

That being said I’m curious what smaller changes will happen as we’ve seen some level of de-contenting over the years (cubby removals and the like). I wonder what, if any things will be different.

i think if you hold the start button down for 10-15 seconds it will start without pressing brake

Thank you for helping end the clusterf*ck that was the BS speculation on the "ALL NEW 2023 TOYOTA TACOMA".

Some of the good people on this forum have been trying honestly, unlike elsewhere online to keep it honest and accurate. Can't say the same for elsewhere.
This has been said awhile of course. I am surprised that they've done anything at all, outside of a new color. It's going to be a 14 month run, starting in October and delayed rollout of 2024.
Yep, end of the line like we've been saying since early 2020. Best choice to make, but you have at least 20 months to make that decision. Once the last of them are built in late 2023, then only about 2 months left.

And this post everyone, is an example of why I worked very hard to bring it to surface, to ignore all the BS news and know not to rush. Either work with 2022 or 2023, if feasible. No harm, no foul, as we don't even know if 2023 will be worse in terms of inventory.

People make expensive decisions and I want them to know what's happening, so it's annoying mixed signals from misinformation results premature selling/leasing/buying.

This being a VERY old product, dating back to 2004 in some mInute aspects, Toyota is not chucking in any Dynamic Force engines from TNGA vehicles. This was very expected, like previously mentioned the past 2 years. No new engines nor any deletions, as this is now a legacy product due for redesign.

They should be available to order in about 3 weeks I believe and start arriving to dealers in October.

    We've saying this for awhile...

2020 was big refresh, 2021 carryover/maintain lifecycle, 2022 minor update, 2023 End of the Line and long swansong MY.

Should've got one of these then...:D

I think that's what forced these mini-refresh changes for 2018 in the first place and later stuff for 2020.

    2016_Toyota_Tacoma_TRDOR_09_2AD9DF9310F2A3EE54EB2B7ABD1575E6FD5A9CE0.jpg 2018_Toyota_Tacoma_02_B19305D8270EB7E30111005E572DD79794C0C794.jpg 20_Tacoma_TRD_Off-Road_Cement_1.jpg

This is just doing filler nonsense and maybe to appeal to the I'm-too-normal-for-the-blackout-tapout-look crowd (at least that's what they think to themselves).

Why would you expect anything different, on the last MY before the biggest redesign in 20 years? LOL, it's called managing your capital investment well and sticking to a strict cycle, without wasting too much on backend.

It's amazing how Toyota held some shame 12-13 years ago, over deciding to cancel an earlier redesign for the 3rd generation Tacoma (for 2014) and instead do a 2G facelift upfront+inside.

Then do a comprehensive supRA-meGA facelift called a Major-Minor Model Change for 2016, expecting to run it through 2021 and all-new truck for 2022MY. With TNGA-F being a bigger boondoggle by 2014, than they planned in 2010, they pushed it back to 2023MY in July/August 2022.

They rushed many updates to keep 3G sales on top, were willing to ditch the 4.0L 1GR-FE in favor of the finicky 3.5L 2GR-FKS, just to have a "new" engine. Even adopted a new manual transmission and got rid of the old one. Internally Toyota weren't too happy about the idea of rewarming 2G into 3G and then keeping it more than half a decade.

After 3 delays since 2010 on planning 4G, it's shocking how they still managed to avoid reaching a full 10-year lifecycle of 3G. It ends in December 2023, after an 8 year and 3.5 month run starting on September 11, 2015.

Which is just fine, because it's relevant and on track. 2023 was nothing special, yet folks kept talking about it or making premature purchases, on bad info (sad).

Yep, but it seems to fall by the wayside. I get people are busy, but if they're looking for that info in the first place, it's probably best to be sure what you're reading is reliable and correct.

So-called ordering does open in 3 weeks, but as you implied...tricky now.

Nice, because that could've been at risk for 2023 even if no redesign. Toyota easily could've dropped the 6MT aka RC62F from the last Model Year (2023). I would hope Toyota is developing a new manual transmission suitable for the powertrains going into the 2024 Tacoma, because the current transmission can't handle those levels of torque at a 300 lb-ft rating.

Yes, Toyota's ultimate goal is to remove all non-Dynamic Force engines from current and redesigned vehicles going forward. All engines are now going to Dynamic Force, which 7-digit nomenclatures like the Camry 2.5L A25A-FKS and A25A-FXS (hybrid). Stuff like the 2TR-FE 2.7L I4 and 2GR-FKS 3.5 V6 are old era Toyota engines, ready to be dumped.

That's why the 2023 Highlander lost the V6, as going forward all mid-cycle vehicles for MY 2023+ or redesigns for either second gen TNGA or first gen TNGA-F, are all going to be Dynamic Force engines. No more GR engine for that reason. 3.4TT might be an option at the top end, but I wouldn't trust that for now. The intel on that is from Plano, but no one else has answered that for.

That really has nothing to do with this...for now. Toyota already managed to miraculously, redesign the Tundra in December 2021 and successfully kept to that launch date, which was defined back in mid-2019, after a 14-month delay occurred behind closed doors and BEFORE the COVID-19 pandemic took hold in 2020-21. Up until spring 2019, the new Tundra was a 2021 model due in October 2020.

The 2023 Tacoma became a carryover year back then, again in 2019. Just like the 2021 Tundra was the last year. Up until that point, in the spring of 2019, Toyota people referred to the Tacoma redesign as a 2023 model. After that mid-year fiasco, they went silent the rest of 2019 due to those mysterious delays and then right before the spring 2020 shutdowns, it became known that the next truck was now a 2024 model. The chip shortage has no effect on any proposed model year change, save for a mysterious 4 month delay from late September 2023 to early 2024.

I am addressing this, because I am seeing comments like this, which borderline imply or outright imply, that Toyota somehow decided to delay the truck last minute until next year, due to the current chip shortage. That's not accurate at all.

Once the rest of the TNGA-F gang began to get more serious in development in 2019, they never had ANY plans for a 2023 Tacoma. They need room for other vehicles first. Any media outlet claiming that, is full of crap and off the mark.

I actually like a little chrome, probably the only one who likes the cheese grater grill. Not much into the tacticool look, guess it is for guys who like to play army running around grabbing each other’s ass…

Wanted to swap that grill in my ‘21, but unfortunately it won’t work with TSS.

Ironically I have no chrome on my SR SX MGM… lol! Should of bought a SR5, but didn’t care for the color coded flares, as they’ll look like shit in a couple years for all the dirt/gravel roads I run down.

May swap on the SR5 grill, and do chrome badging. Truck is a little too stealth for me. Slightly regretting going with MGM, should of waited for the ‘22 and got it in Blue Crush, but I was in desperate need of a new truck.

Yeah I hear ya, I wanted army green like every other guy in the world but I found my truck with every single option I wanted and not a single thing extra just sitting there on the lot. Happened to be black and I got the dealer down to $6K under MSRP. No way I was gonna pass that opportunity up!

Black sure is sharp looking though, considered it, but my old F250 was black, and swore I would never own another black vehicle ever again, MGM isn’t much better. Quick Sand is probably the best color for me for how much my truck is in the dirt. Wasn’t an option anymore on the SR.

Why would you want to replace a reliable OE remote start with aftermarket? The subscription is only for the phone app. You still use the fob as remote start as you currently do. Why would you need to start the vehicle before putting the beer down? Sounds like you should have purchased a manual transmission as I did. No remote start, proximity entry, push button or smart key. Simple old school key!

:101010: came here to say literally all of this.

Also.... I'm going to consider consolidating my fleet to one TRD off-road in solar orange with an MT if I can pull it off.

You should try to get one, there's dealers out there still selling at msrp. I know of two in my state that offer them at msrp, only downfall is having to wait 3 months on average for your truck.

Exclusive colors are dumb, esp when this is the last MY

Inferno was the best color they ever made, and they are idiots for only making it for 3 and 1/2 years.

I wonder if they're going to sell 417 of those like they did with the 2015 Inferno TRD Pro. I randomly came across @Dave41079 2015 TRD Pro on google streetview while clicking through MapCrunch a while back.
