I have this strange noise from what seems to be coming from near the bottom of the engine. Sometimes this noise is constant like in the video, and other times it will tap like once or twice and stop. When I turn on the ac the noise will not occur. This only seems to happen at idle around 500 rpm. I do not think this in the injectors from how random the noise is. Let me know your thoughts, thanks!

Looks like there is a big leak on your engine in that area. Maybe the oil is getting low?

I have a very similar noise on mine although it’s a consistent pattern, but it only happens under load and when it’s warmed up. And it doesn’t happen all the time either. It’s been doing it for 16k though, so I don’t think it’s anything catastrophic lol.

Since the noise stops with the AC Compressor engaged it could be the compressor. It’s also possible that it’s something in the bottom end because it stops when you put a load on the engine.

Update: Regarding the leak comment, I recently did an oil change so it might look like there is a leak, but there is not. I have confirmed the oil level is right where it needs to be. Also undercoated my truck with fluid film so everything looks a bit wet. Also was able to get the noise to happen with the AC on, just not as much when it's on. At the dealership now to see what they say about.

Update: The dealership said everything is fine, adjusted my purge valve and sent me on my way. This did not fix anything, the noise is still present. I am not convinced this is normal, I can only hear the noise from the bottom of the motor. Can anyone else confirm their truck makes this specific noise? Thanks!

Well FatNoseBlubber, I think somebody fell asleep on the assembly line and they were accidentally encased inside the engine. the tapping is their attempt at morse code trying to alert someone to help them.

Another member had a similar video showcasing the same intermittent click. I think he ended up needing a new passenger version side cylinder head. Can't find the thread...

It sounds like a lifter, valve train. Maybe a chain tensioner. I'd be pulling the valve cover off if I got that job likely.

Its always hard to tell with videos.

Also fun fact, 2.7's are super rare in Canada, I havent done an oil change on one in over 6 years.

Thank you all for the feedback. I did have a buddy of mine with a Tacoma idle his truck for a while and this noise was not present. A bit more info on the noise, it does go away completely when the truck is warmed up, and when it is not, the noise will go away above 2000 RPM.
