2023 Tacoma Trd off road lunged into my house in reverse after complete stop.

Has anyone had there 2023 or older Toyota Tacoma 4x4 lunge backwards while completley stopped and cause a fender bender or accident? I have a 2023 TRD D Cab 4x4 longbed with about 2500 miles and have hit my home pretty good while I was In the truck completley stopped with foot on brake the Truck was in Reverse. It felt like a demon possessed my truck and pushed the gas I was stopped close to the house so did not have to go far. Have lived in same home 12 years and never had anything similar happen and the Tacoma even has a beeper to let u know before an accident when your getting close so I could see everything. my other rigs do not move once I am at a complete stop. . I backed in reverse to park went closer than I wanted so pulled forward a little more put foot on brake and was in reverse then the truck lunged backwards into my home from a complete stop without giving my truck gas for sure. Sounds like you are a distracted driver. Sorry, but you are. Cleaning up soda spills and leaning over, while truck is in gear?
The only other issus could possibly be the electric brake booster that off-road has, but I do not know enough about EBB to comment on it.
Toyota lunging recals were for floor mats sliding forward and catching the gas pedal. Is your floor mat secured to the floor? If yes, that's not your issue.

 

As mentioned, you do seem like a very distracted driver and also a bit incapable of driving anything in this class/size.

You're worried about children and animal safety, but the real danger is you my guy.

That’s my two cents. Sorry if it’s blunt, but as a dad with a 3 year old. I’d be concerned if you were in a vehicle anywhere near us.

 

That’s a bit dramatic. There’s far worse already around you all the time, so may as well go ahead and take yourself and the 3 y/o off the road now to be safe.

 

A break in oil change at 500 miles will help prevent unprovoked lunging.

You’re right, same type of person backing out of a parking space in a shopping center. Have almost been hit by this way many times. The culprit, distracted driving.

Being alert of others negligence isn’t dramatic, it’s being aware.

 

Yes and the Tacoma was not one of them.

 

I haven’t had the unprovoked lunging but I do enjoy a provocative thrust from time to time

 

The recall is for creeping forward and does not include the Tacoma.

 

Thank you, we did do a early break in oil change at 1250 miles because of towing and the dealer said there was no shavings in the oil. Do your Tacoma lunge at all in reverse?

 

The recall is for the vehicle being in Neutral and slowly creeping forward, not Park and lunging in Reverse. If the vehicle is in Park, the parking pawl is engaged and it cannot lunge either direction, at least on the Tacoma. Something else happened here.

Now, IF you come to a complete stop and leave it in Reverse, and you have your foot only lightly on the brake, and the A/C kicks on, your RPM's will slightly go up to deal with the compressor load. That MIGHT be enough to make it lunge, but this has been a characteristic of all vehicles for decades now.

 

Could be possible that a failed electronic brake booster would allow the truck to move backward while in gear and still holding the brake down. Unlikely, but possible. It can’t do it in park though, the mechanical parking pawl holds the transmission in place and prevents the wheels from rolling.

Cannot see, and even worse being teased or made fun of by people who do now know me personally but I guess that’s life

 

99% sure this is from you moving the steering wheel. Caught me off guard the first time it happened to me too. The truck bumps the idle up when you move the wheel and if you're barely on the brakes its enough of a power increase to move the truck. Long story short sucks its happened but ultimately its not a defect and its just something you need to be aware of.

 

Kudos for not going off and being a key board warrior!
Mine does lung kinda when putting it in gear but the brake holds it from moving.

 

May have possibly been from rolling your for off the brake onto the gas while trying to clean up the drink.

So I didn’t see anything about the drink issue in your post. Maybe I missed it?
I kinda had the similar happen and bumped a car that was turning into a spot besides me.
I had also leaned over to catch my 2 quarts of clam chowder after engaging reverse he was close and I believe I wasn’t on the brake hard enough!
Either way it was my fault luckily he was cool and we settled he didn’t want anything but I still gave him some $$$ made me feel better and he was happy also!
