Silly me. I uploaded the video to YouTube and made it private. I am a technological dinosaur so be easy with me please. My kids will correct it.

When promoting a product as being beyond substitution, at least spell it correctly. :D

Having said that, if I had to coat my truck, it would indeed be with cosmoline.

Cosmoline, Cosmolene… as long as we know what our fellow participant, the venerable “wfo479”, is referring to I am good with it. Since it was my fat mouth that started this thread can we be kind here and maintain civility towards each other. Respect to all who chime in to help out a lil’ novice like myself. Excuse me while I finish polishing my “glass windows” in my glass house…

X2 on Cosmolene, but I'm not sure Woolwax and Fluidfilm is crap.

Does Cosmopolitan/Cosmolene/Cosmoline dry to a hard shell or does it stay wet like lanolin or oil based coatings? Asking because my limited understanding is that a hard coating, when breached/cracked, gives water the opportunity to seep between layers, trap moisture and oxidize.

While I'm sure it isn't all created equally, I've been around a lot of very old commie cosmoline, and I've never seen it crack, and can't even begin imagine under what circumstances it would.

I now need assistance in releasing it’s inner beast….. All advice is wanted and welcomed. One idea I have is to replace the training wheels that it comes with.

The 1st thing I’d do is check for spare tire and spare accessories; jack, lug nut key and for spare wheel lock and key, if spare wheel lock present.

My ‘22 pro has been wheeling in Lake Tahoe, Sedona AZ, Ouray CO, and Moab UT multiple times in the last 3 years. I have been fine on the stock tires, but recently changed to 265/75/16 Wildpeaks for the winter ski season. Your truck is very capable stock. Get out and drive it!!

My first mods were a set of rock sliders and an off road kit consisting Viair compressor, air down kit, tow straps, hitch shackle, tire plug kit, some soft shackles, and a shovel.

All of these pics were on stock rubber.

My 2018 stock OR was quite capable on my off road mountain terrain in the Berkshires and in Capitol Reef National Park Utah; while checking my traps betwixt and between the two. Hit a few curbs at the Quackerbridge Mall in New Jerksey that it could barely handle. FunknNasty, I like your advice and it all checked out; all accessories and in good working order. DoubleB, I have most of what you suggested; especially partial to the soft shackles(my wife shackles me to the radiator with em’ when I am bad which happens quite often). Have your rock sliders had to slide off of any rocks lately and if so what would you recommend as a “Teflon Don” pair? After seeing your pics I think you’re my new gym class hero. Nothing creepy. And on your advice I will keep the training wheels. Thanks a bunch Gentlemen. Keep the advice coming, at your leisure, to help keep me out of the ditches. P.S. By the way, I am liking, very much, this Tacoworld site. Thank you all for such a warm welcome; I think.

I visited Capital Reef as well. It is beautiful.

My sliders were made by a guy here on TW. @Shmellmopwho set me up and installed them in his driveway. I scraped them and my front skid on rocks in Sedona on the Outlaw trail.

Have fun with your truck! I have almost 50k miles on mine already.

Here's the data sheet. Lots of good info here:

    https://www.cosmolinedirect.com/content/Cosmoline-Industrial_Grade_RV_342_TDS.pdf

    Specifically:

    Film won’t crack or flow from - 40º F to 175º F (-40º C to 79.4º C).

When it’s applied it flows and it can be thinned so it really flows. After the solvent evaporates it will not flow.
