hi, do you think its normal my new 2023 bought with zero miles is leaking oil? all i do is drive have not done anything else. do you think its normal my collision light and ect have come on on their own without me touching anything on different occasions and smells like metal is burning. Claremont Toyota service rep, customer relations rep and service manager are telling me its completely normal, safe and not risky to keep driving my Tacoma as is? I dont think that is correct? What do you think? Toyota ordered part says its no fault of mine its a defective part, but did not report that on paperwork just didnt charge me for part. Part is now on back order till April 7th. Based on what Ive read here, youtube and google the back order proves that this is a common Toyota problem. Meanwhile I commute far for work. I told Mike Service Manager at Claremont Toyota that all I read online says driving a car leaking oil allot and far is not safe and risky. So I again asked Service Manager for a loaner or rental and to leave Tacoma at Claremont Toyota till they get the new part to replace the defective part. Service manager Mike said he has to call Toyota to ask and get approval but first he insisted it was safe, not a risk and no reason for loaner. Toyota Service Manager Mike says he will give me a yay or nay on the loaner/rental within the next 24hrs. Please let this 48 almost 49 year old mom in SoCal know your utmost best suggestions. As all my plates are tipping over . Thanks in advance

Doesn't sound normal to me. Instead of saying "part" tell us what it is. What's the secret and the whole story ? I'd be going to at least one other dealer for a second opinion if still under warranty.

I personally think you will be fine the filler tube subassembly does not have direct oil pressure on it so just check the oil every few days and you will be fine. I suspect it’s more of a seepage type leak or you would have been seeing oil on the driveway.

Small lift, slightly oversized tires, well...
Pictures of where you see oil would be helpful. No idea what would be giving a burning metal smell. How many miles on the truck?

Let me clarify I mean it will be fine until the back ordered part arrives but definitely keep a watch on the oil.

Just under 26k miles. When sun rises I will make my husband check the dip stick since I dont see any oil leaks where i park in garage. if the dip stick is low I will drive to redlands toyota for a 2nd opinion, a loaner and verbatim documentation on paperwork. As I experienced what Im experiencing now with a 2014 brand new accord not engine but all electrical and push button. thats why i switched to toyota God knows I dont want to go through legal stuff again :( Service rep at dealer told me over phone "oil cap sub assembly housing". But on paper work the word housing is not there just "notice oil cap sub assembly leaking oil, parts on order" I dont have pictures of any oils leaks as we dont see oil leaks at all. going to make husband check dip stick tomorrow as I just had an oil change maybe 3 or 4 weeks ago

Where did you get oil change 3 or 4 weeks ago? Whoever did oil change, maybe spilled engine oil, and tried to clean mess up. Never know, they try to hide it, or BS.

Just check the oil , most likely it’s still full . That looks like a seep , based on all the dust stuck to the oil . Again check the oil , if full , check it again in a week and by that time the part will be in . I don’t think you need to worry all that much

The service manager has said it’s safe and not risky to drive and I agree so wait for the part to come in and have it repaired. In the event they find something else they will repair under warranty. I understand your concern but no need to worry about it your truck is not pouring oil.

Top dog, thanks for your input. However I think you are not correct. And perhaps biased or conflict of interest being that your comment reads just like Toyota service manager over the phone. Part was supposed to come in yesterday or today. Part didn't come in and now on back order till April 7th. I commute for work in Tacoma. If paperwork reads verbatim "defective part" as it should have since this is what Toyota service rep and customer relations told me and "customer told Tacoma safe to drive, engine and now alternator not at risk to drive as is, till part arrives" Then I would not have to do my due diligence. I had to learn part is on back order by calling Toyota service telephone rep. Because service rep in person, customer relations and service manager never called me back at all, as promised. in 2020 I experienced similar with a brand new accord. Honda service depts and honda warranty and bad car forced me to sue. I won 40% back of my expenses, thank God, but thats not even 50% therefore super not fair nor just! God knows I don't want to have to go through that again.

No, i’m not biased at all I have no affiliation with Toyota you came on here asking for opinions I gave you mine and you disagree with it that’s fine that’s your right. I wish you good luck and have a nice afternoon!
