They think the rear end is going to fall out of the truck when they’re done with it.
I don’t know. Gloom and doom.

There is major possible engine work about to be done on a 5k mile truck that tends to have stellar reliability.
The problem also seems to be quite uncommon. It doesn't hurt to get a 2nd opinion which is why OP posted. If the dealership tech shows him the actual leak etc... then there is no problem etc. Just a bizarre one off problem with the truck.

If a clinic in your area offered you a colonoscopy for free, would you take them up on it?

The proper procedure involves removing the timing cover which requires engine removal.

Why? Jobs like this pay well for dealer techs. An engine job is gravy for a good line tech who mainly gets a ton of brake jobs that pay 1-2 hours.

Don’t have to remove the engine - but have to remove front diff if 4WD, and the steering rack. It’s in order to remove the upper oil pan which allows timing cover to come off.

    curious what the update is?

I know of a 23 Tundra with the same issue, 4000kms and they had to replace both heads. Whole motor was torn apart...he traded it in 3 days after he got it back.
