2023 trd or check engine light

2900 miles.
Pulled truck out of garage & noticed I had the dreaded light.
Checked gas cap, cleaned o ring & reinstalled. No change.
Only change to my driving was going to Yosemite for 2 weeks, got back 2 weeks ago.
Looked for evidence of a mouse, I see nothing.
I have an old OBD2 but it's not linking to my truck. I don't have any paperwork for it anymore. I bought it when I bought my 2009 2nd gen.
I have push button start & I pressed the start button w/o putting foot on brake. Not linking.
I will take it to dealer Monday but may run by O Rileys or Autozone & have them scan it (and maybe pick up a new one)
Am I doing something wrong?

If you're saying you added something electronic my "common sense" says start by disconnecting it ?

Is the light permanently on ? Or comes on then goes away ?

 

On all the time when running. Not flashing. I'll drive it around tomorrow to see what happens. I'll hit up Autozone to pull any codes.
The Innova 3040c is a scanner to read OBD2 codes. It's pretty old.
My 2nd gen 2009 with 180k miles has never thrown a code. This 3rd gen with less than 3k miles did.

 

My old Innova would connect to my 2018 Taco. I bought a newer one for work though, the 5210. It's very similar to your 3040. Highly recommend it.

It started this morning for me. I have a 2023 TRD OR 4x4 MT. The check engine light is lit but not flashing. Also lost my BSM. Truck has 3,100 miles on it. Runs like a champ. WTF.

I have scheduled the nearby dealer to service it. My 2020 SR5 was perfect.

 

When I first got my truck I was testing locking gas caps to find one that would work. The gas caps that did not seal properly caused a solid Check Engine Light with an intermittent Trac Off light. If this is what you are seeing, check the gas cap again. Also, unless I cleared the codes with a scanner, it took a couple of trips for the CEL light to clear itself once the gas cap was sealed properly.

 

check any recent modifications, especially anything electrical.

I got gas last winter and left the car running with the gas cap off. After about 10 min of driving I noticed the check engine light was on. Figured that's what it was. Just cleared the light with a cheapo obd device and all good since. I let the wife freeze now during fill ups.

 

Some people will tell you to disconnect your Battery for a few hours and see if that works.

I wouldn't do it, but you never know...

 

I'd find out what the code is before doing anything else. OP has the right idea. Ride by Autozone and let them read the code, then pick up an inexpensive OBD2 reader there or off Amazon for the future. Once you know the code, go from there.

 

AutoZone opens in 30 minutes, I'll keep you posted.

 

Did you by chance add a bed cover with water drains?

 

Probably gonna turn out to be a big nothing burger - some sensor acting goofy or whatnot.

Only mods to this truck is
Backflip cover w/ drains. Hasn't rained here in months. Bed dry, drains are run outside the bed. Pro installed. Truck hasn't been washed in a month.

The dealer was suppose to remove the aftermarket alarm they tried to charge me $950 over MSRP. I do see the ground wires under hood near battery. That shit needs to go.

 

Ok, back from Autozone.
They connected their code reader & asked me to START the truck. Directions on my reader say to key on but do not start (push to start w/o brake pedal).
So the code is PO348 Power train system- Crankshaft position sensor A Circuit high input (Bank 2)
No repair solution found. Requires further diagnosis.
Would a broken wire cause this? Or a bad sensor? Maybe not mice at all.

 

This is the 2023? Take it back to the dealership under warranty.
