This is absolutely not a true statement. In fact, it is retarded.

First of all, "cast iron" is a term that refers to your kitchen skillet. When it comes to automotive metallurgy, the correct term is *Plain Carbon Steel".

Anyway, plain carbon steel always rusts unless it is cathodically protected or coated. The initial layer of rust, ironically, for a time period that canbe measured in days, does provide a layer of coating. However, as soon as that rust layer cracks - due to thermal changes or rock chips or for any other reason such as even a car wash, that crack allows for more moisture, salt and oxygen to get underneath and cause further corrosion. When this inevitable process repeats itself over and over again, this becomes known as rust blistering or rust delamination.

Again, a layer of rust on plain carbon steel is most certainly NOT any kind of protective coating. THINK ABOUT THIS PEOPLE. If this was actually a true statement, there would never have been a vehicle frame rot out. Seriously.

If you believe rust on plain carbon steel is a proective coating, HAVE YOUR HEAD EXAMINED.
