You should have no problem getting Toyota to repaint it. If you have a certified Toyota Repair Center near you, use them. The one I used said their work was guaranteed for life. Toyota sent a couple of field techs to inspect my truck to try and find out what went wrong. I never heard what their findings were. They did give me a $250 Visa card for the trouble of taking the truck to the dealer for them to inspect it. Toyota has lost me as a customer, and not just because of this paint job. My truck has so far spent 49 days at the dealer with multiple problems, from warped brake drums to even having the torque converter replaced. It only has 7000 miles on it.

It's definitely a weird feeling to be relieved that rubbing alcohol dissolves the paint. Impossible for them to call that normal.

Looks like you're counting the days for lemon law to kick in - in my state I think it's 30 days. Guess we'll see how it goes. Toyota is probably living off an outlived reputation, but most likely, so is every other manufacturer.

Good guess, I am waiting for Toyota to decide if my truck is a lemon. It is 30 days in Alabama. It is so disappointing, I thought I would own Toyotas for the rest of my life. This is my 4th new Toyota. I kept buying them because their quality smoked every other manufacturer, but I can't imagine having this many problems with any other new vehicle, heck I don't think a Jeep would have been this bad.

I’m on my 4th Toyota truck. While I agree that in terms of mechanical durability, they are hard to beat, I feel they have always been cheap quality in the paint/trim areas. The black plastic trim on my 19’ is toast already, my 13 year old Chrysler 300 all the trim still looks new.
I still love my truck, it always does what I need it to do and none of them have ever let me down except for RUST.

I guess I got lucky. Tomorrow will be 2 years since I got my new White Tacoma. Put a deposit down before it was built. 58k miles and no paint issues. I have had sliders and larger mudflaps and 0 offset wheels for a year now. I've heard of this issue and inspect closely every wash. But luckily, no problem as of now.

That doesn’t look so bad, it’s just a few nicks. I once knew a guy who thought the runaway truck ramp was a freeway exit, boy did that look bad!

But the worst I ever saw was what happened after the cow licking incident. A herd of cows licked all the paint down to bare metal when a buddy parked his rented work truck in a field!

Ok, so for such a new truck that does look sad, and you should take it in. At least it’s not the dreaded peeling paint issue a lot of us Arctic White Tacoma owners have, welcome to the club!

These "chips" do not appear to be paint loss from stone impacts. They are too consistent and almost have uniform patterns to them. No primer loss or underlying sheet metal dings. Many of them are almost duplicates of their neighbors around them: Rounded at their trailing edges and elongated at their leaded edge. Almost like a flow effect or spray-effect when something got splashed up resulting in eventual loss of paint or some contamination of the surfaces before the final color coat was applied.

The thread is getting kind of long, so you may have missed the photo and post - I cleaned a small area with rubbing alcohol and it almost instantly dissolved the paint. Toyota repainted the poster's truck you're quoting for the same issue.

Your observation of how the paint is flaking/chipping is a good way of describing it.
