No surprise, Gunter's folksy style may work with a team going up, but with a team in a downward spiral it looks incompetent. Not saying Gunter is incompetent, but the appearances matter. Time for a far more professional face. (to prep the sale to Andretti?)

Some outlets are reporting that Simone Resta walked out just before the meeting in which Steiner and Haas parted ways. The timing also suggests that neither exits were amicable.

 

Sky reporter yesterday - he knew on the weekend and much of the team has known since late December. Motorsport has talked to Gene and it came down to Gene not being happy with 9th/10th place finishes despite the close ties with Ferrari. Wanted someone more technical in the position and his philosophy has always been to promote from within to maintain stability and lessen learning curves.

Sounds like another will be added to look after the more administrative parts of the position.

Really, as nice of a guy as Gunter is and as great of a character he is, his accomplishments the past few years are his book, TV series and Netflix DTS character, not on track performance.

 

I do not disagree at all but I look at the other side of it and feel like he is what was able to hold that shit show together whereas someone more technical I feel would have struggled giving the lack of budget and all the other nuances they have had to deal with. I get it, if you are throwing RB or Mercedes money at it and you don't have the success but I feel like anyone would be hard pressed to do more with what he has had to work with.
