The lower part of the strut is in a bucket more so now. So you have to force the lower control arm down further. It was more of a pain working on the floor to get it done

^Why force? Loosen the cam bolts and swing the LCA down 90 deg. Hell, when the truck is still fresh, pull out the cam bolts and lather them in grease or cosmoline.

That bucket on the lower control arm is where I thought rust could form, just normal rust over time. Compared to the previous generation lowers that are much more open.

Have you seen any similarity designed lower arms on any other trucks or vehicles?

The bucket design could add strength.

@testerdahl appreciate your deep dive into this... I've already ordered the reinforcement from ICON and they're sitting in my garage waiting for me to install.

Excessive water and dirt shouldn't collect in there there being open, I thought there might be more flat surface around the bottom mount.

Like what we were discussing in the other thread, seeing a bunch of cut corners. With every gen there was always something that needed fixed. You would think they would have addressed all of them by now, looks to be they are creating new solutions to problems that didn’t exist before.

Yeah. This cut corner is inexcusable. People will be jumping that pro.. or using their ORs normally. Time will tell but if they can’t hang, reputation will grenade.

It is, can be fixed, but we shouldn’t have to do it, especially at the prices they are commanding. Feel like the whole line is $5-10K too much. With high interest rates and higher costs of admission is a crash coming? Recently learned that KTM isn’t doing as well as I thought. 2.5 billion loss. Like Toyota, thought they were a premier brand.

Engine and transmission failures, cut corners here and there. Might be rumblings of a fall.

How do you fix a bump stop that’s biting the top of the shock tower versus more appropriately the LCA/frame? Seems impossible to get the same support this goofy method.

3 ways so far from the aftermarket:
Install Icon's reinforcement plate. Inexpensive mod at $70.

Install the Land Cruiser's bolt-on frame-mounted bump stop bracket. Either weld them on the frame or use rivnuts.

Install any upgraded coilover that has a machined upper mount (Icon, King, Fox, etc.)

After what I spent on that silly trail hunter I am not doing any mods like this. I cannot imagine bolting or welding anything to the frame to correct bean counter corner cuts. If it fails I’m going to Toyota. Ridiculous.

New coil overs, and weld on a hydraulic bump, like from King or similar. Might as well do all new a-arms while you’re in there too. Anything can be fixed with enough time and money. That or sell and buy another brand. Why researching the hell out of products is a good thing.

What’s wrong with the tried and true LCA/body mounted bump stop? That’s what the Land Cruiser on the same frame gets. And what my old 3G used to have. It works. Bulletproof. This is some goofy shit.
