I’m still rocking a woody. The LLC is a downside for sure. Anything can be done if you throw enough money at it.

Except California has some 10 day rule. I'm not sure how that works if you're a resident.

LLC in Montana allows you to keep your “business” there and operate anywhere

I think it really only matters if you're driving it often enough to get noticed and caught. If it's a roadtrip-only vehicle or a crawler that's on a trailer on most trips, you're probably fine.

There's a Viper parked in a driveway around the corner from me with Montana plates. I'm sure it doesn't get many miles, and more sure that the owner's crazy for parking it outside.

Here's my concern. You create the LLC and transfer assets to it. Three years down the road, California decides to look into things and decides this is only to avoid taxes and comes after you. That could get expensive. Idk, I would probably seek legal advice before doing this. For me, it'd be easier just to leave CA.

Edit: You could also have insurance problems since residence is the driver for insurance. Would suck to be involved in an accident and find out insurance doesn't cover it. A part of the 10 day question is plate vs license--that is always a red flag. Now, having worked for a company based in New Jersey, they maintain registration for their company supplied vehicles--that's easily explained.

It’s more simple than what you think. Guys I know got their vehicle registered and insured in the same state (LLC in Montana with insurance company in Montana). Let’s just say a guy I know got into a wreck here on CA, calls the insurance back in Montana and informed the insurance of the accident and that the vehicle is currently being used in CA, he was told to take the vehicle to a certified shop for the repair in CA. That was it.

As a LLC, you DO NOT need to obtain a driver’s license from that state. The vehicle just needs registration and insurance from the said state.

It really came down to misjudging the forecast and the storm coming earlier and stronger than expected.
    IMG_0379.jpg

We were all well fed and I still had all this food plus more beer and water left over when I got home.
    IMG_0420.jpg
We could have lasted a few more days without any help though the storm that was coming in Monday would have made our extrication more difficult.

I’m thankful that the effort of the community made the lessons learned far less costly than it could have been.

It looks to me like you were running low on rye whiskey. I usually keep a backup bottle somewhere in the kitchen box, you know, just in case.

I had an unopened bottle of Michter's Rye that I gave to the guys that rescued us when they arrived at 10 pm Sunday night.

When do you want to go snow camping Larry?

Good job gifting the extra bottle of rye. I would have done the same.
As for snow camping, I'm down. Will be sure to bring extra food, warm clothes, and of course whiskey!

Man we were all concerned, I reached out to my cousin with his ram charger on 42's who was on stand by but once we caught wind of the nor cal 4x4 group on their way we figured we would wait to see what happens. Glad you guys made it out, Federico and I were leading the way to you guys until we came across another group in front of us who was turning around so we were forced to do the same. Had a feeling that group was full of weenies but they were cool dudes who just didn't want to push it, which was probably smart. Also Federico's dog ended up biting half by dogs face off so I was out at that point also trying to get assistance for my boy who had to go to the vet er.

Wow! Thanks for coming out, and sorry about the pup  The crew from NorCal 4x4 Rescue made it to our location at 10 pm Sunday night and it still took 5 more hours to get us all off the trail and back down to the staging area below Airport Flat on Ice House Road.
