Just curious if the hood scoop on the 2024 is actually functional or just purely decoration like the previous gens?

I saw in one of the videos where the chief engineer said they did try and it caused instability inside the engine to pull air in from that point

I like that they both tried and kept it anyway because it looks cool

Why does everyone want a functional hood scoop? What is the desired function? Ram Air?

Beats me, I would rather have non functional as a functional you would have to deal with an expensive duct work to keep debris from entering the scoop which would mean more cleaning, engine damage etc etc. The only advantage of the scoop is to drop panties, just saying

Half the people crying about the non-functional scoop have fake bead-locks, Raptor lights, snorkels, bull-bars, lights, lifts, etc., all for looks. It boggles the mind.

Do I need to add raptor lights to my fake scoop to enable this feature?

My 2nd gen w/o scoop is a very effective dropper of panties. YMMV.

Also, does the "hood scope" decrease mpg? ...kinda like removing the chin spoiler?

im not sure but I can tell you my mpg did not drop when I took off the spoiler. I ran 2000 miles with and 2000 miles without, mpg was the same.

I'd like it purposed not for intake, but added ventilation for the engine compartment. Especially the area around the turbo and cat. If it's routed correct it would push cooling air when moving, and give a more direct escape route when sitting still.

The only possible functional benefit is some passive heat ventilation during low speed trail crawling. None of these trucks have an engine that can benefit from forced induction.

The Tacoma scoop has only ever had the following 3 effects:
    1. Blinding glare for the driver
    2. Increased drag
    3. Increasing the price tag for posers.

yeah too much engineering to ensure you dont suck up debris and mostly to not suck in rain water at speed and then a way to divert that water to a drain point. i imagine the baffles needed to ensure water doesnt get sucked into a cylinder would be paramount :)

I think that Chevy/GMC has done this. But it's not all the air just some. The scoop is still partially blocked.
