I still like the Defender because it has short, medium, and long wheelbases.

Would absolutely love if Tacos came with Lexus interior quality. And would pay extra. But, yeah, I am more of a truck guy... Will wait for the 4th Taco gen to stabilize.

Yeah, but does it run when you need it to. (Former LR owner here, btw.)

I'd love a 90. I work next-door to the local LR/JAG dealer and it makes it even more of a tease haha. Once they get down to reasonable used prices it'll be nice. As is, it's tough to justify $60K on a swb base model.

I agree, there is a small portion of their lineup that the current grill design really works for in my opinion, mainly the IS and the LC500.

This is a huge win on the GX grill, they not only made it better but they actually made it look good.

Right? I agree, some of the spindle designs look good but after 2019 the GX grille got very, how would I put it? In your face? It makes the 2019 and younger look downright subtle, let alone the early bodies.

I'd put a roof rack and some decent ATs on one and call it done. Maybe a bumperless rear tire carrier if someone comes up with another clean one like they have for the previous GX's and a subtle front winch mount if needed. That's it.
    Maybe I'm getting old.

My old man had one of the old V8 D90s in Britney Spears Yellow.

It was pretty solid, but I don’t think modern defenders are like that.

Modern Defenders are great if you like rental cars. Because yours will be in the shop getting repaired.

Shame too, because they are gorgeous.

The V8 D90 is one of the most fun vehicles I've ever driven. So ridiculous, so silly, so pointless. Love it.

I'm hyped for the GX550. Can't wait to drive one.

OEMs have really focused on the wealthy car buyers that will pay a premium for top trims that have higher profit margins. You don’t even see them making hardly any base models anymore; maybe just for fleet vehicles. They don’t care if most people can’t afford $80k trucks since they know us poors will probably just buy used anyway.

base models I'd agree with, but I think the one just above base is the most popular in general. We just bought a VW Atlas and cross shopped all the minivans and a handful of SUVs - far and away the most inventory was for the equivalent of the SR5 trim. Would be cool if the OEMs broke down sales by trim

The wife is unsure, but I tend to think once she sees one up-fitted that it'll be our replacement for her 460. Really exceeded my expectations. I thought it was going to end up as a body on frame minivan.

That causes a bunch of problems because the manufacturer will then take the most base model, which is not available, and put “starts at 59,999!!!” but then you show up to a dealership and the cheapest model they have is $95,000.

When the fifth generation 4runner first came out, Toyota may or may not have made a four-cylinder rear wheel drive model, I’m not sure because no one has ever seen one, and then proclaimed that the fifth generation 4Runner “starts at $25,999!!!,” when you couldn’t even order the four-cylinder model.

This also plays into scumbag organizations like Kelley blue balls and carfucks, which, at least to some extent factor in the base price of the vehicle so then dealers can lowball you on the trade-in, because you have a very expensive version of a cheaper car.

edit: car dealers here in California have an intimate relationship with carfucks, so whether you want to or not, you will get free reports from them if you go to the dealers, and at least two of my cars that still were getting serviced at dealerships get quarterly maintenance reports and estimated values and they are 30-40% below what dealerships are selling these vehicles used for right now.
