What these things are selling for now a days is crazy. Market in Florida is ridiculous on its own but just thinking about how things used to be to now how they are is nuts.

$50,000+ for a small/mid size 4 cylinder truck. I think my 2nd gen is the latest Toyota I’ll own. If I got another, it’ll be an older model.

EDIT: I’m not knocking anyone, I’m sure they’re nice trucks. I’m just stating my perspective.

Everyone here would love to spend $30k. But that simply isn’t reality for a new truck or vehicle today.

I don't post here often - even though we have 2 and probably soon to be 3 tacos in our family. However, I did some very quick research to see how much pricing has increased relative to inflation. A quick search seemed to show that SR-5s were stickering for about $25K range back in 1998. If that is inflated at a rate of 2.5% then that would put the inflation-adjusted price in 2024 for the same truck at $47,500 so really not too far off. When you consider the added technology and improvements made over the years it doesn't really seem like $50K is all that much to pay - at least in my eyes. I don't think it is realistic to expect truck prices to not increase at the same rate as everything else.

Also, if you look at average wages over those same years they more than doubled. So, in that sense, a new Tacoma seems to have actually become less expensive relative to earnings. Not trying to attack or defend anyone and I will say, $50K+ is a lot of coin to drop on anything. But I bet spending $25K on a truck back in 1998 probably seemed equally as painful.

What does kind of get me though is the price of used trucks - though I haven't really done a similar analysis on those.

Used Tacoma prices have been insanely expensive the past few years. They have come down a little recently, but you can expect to pay handsomely for one with less than 20k miles.

Yea the new trucks are way over priced but that is due to the economy, not Toyota. And without getting into politics, our money just doesn't go as far anymore. Plus, it's all relative. Somehow, KBB valued my 2005 TRD OR at $5-7k with 310,000 miles. It's no where near worth that much in reality, but I was able to get $6k in trade value.

Trailhunter $5700 off. If my math is correct that is almost 9% off a halo trim.

5.5 hour drive, if it wasn't white and I didn't get a truck I'd bite. Although the allure of a LB TH is spicy!

I'm negotiating on a low-optioned TRD Off Road 6MT with an MSRP of $45,000.

I'm at $42,000 OTD + Tax - hoping to get to $40,000, which would be ~11% off.

Realistically, I think we will land around $40,500 - or 10% off.

Hate to leave any money on the table - do you think this is a decent deal?

Excellent deal. Last week I got 6% off plus free tint and an extra 2 years of maintenance on a TRD Off Road. My MSRP was $52,189. I would have rather got 10% off. I was happy with my deal though. I then bought 10/1000 extended platinum warranty from Troy Dietrich of Ford of Greenfield.

Just picked up a 2024 TRD long bed. MSRP was $55,224, paid $50,200 +$1,100 in fees, title, etc. I felt like that was a pretty good deal.
Nice truck BTW. I've had 4 toyota pickups, including 2 3rd gens. The 2024 is really a big step up in about every way.

imo, definitely a good deal! Was shopping around for a week on a Mt 6 speed from CA nationwide on car gurus. Didn’t see much options avaible, or if there was any. It was coming out to 55k otd. Too much imo opinion. If I didn’t purchase an automatic, I’d be looking for your dealer right now lol.
But I was able to talk down an automatic offroad trim with not many add ons to 47,002 otd. I’m happy with the number compared to other quotes I was getting. Even with some uses 3rd gen’s too.

    Update for anyone shopping...

We landed at $40,900 - so 9% below MSRP.

Dealer was insistent I finance some of the vehicle so they can make $$ on the back end. I agreed to finance $20K at 3.99% with Toyota Financial Services.

Feeling ok about the deal - but I think someone pushing harder could do better. I didn't negotiate as hard as I should have - as I wanted a late production, very base TRD Offroad 6MT - in a color that is going away for 2025.

I imagine we are going to see some really agressive rates and rebates in December - hopefully, I'm not kicking myself too hard.

Deals are out there. Prices finally coming down. Purchased a Sport, long bed 4x4 with premium package for $47.5k. Sitting on lot for months, they literally had to jump it for my test drive. Love the truck and at that price it's more palatable than 53 or 54 MSRP.
