I should have included income and financial institution. About 15 years ago I purchased a Cayman S with no trade-in, and my credit union didn't require a down payment.

Solid credit. Payment should be a good bit less than 10% of my gross, I believe. Considering one fella got an OR from my local dealer for 9.5% under MSRP, I shouldn't be overstretched on LTV. Should also be able to swing a 48 month term if necessary.

I'm sure the terms just depend on where I go for financing. I'm just not cash/trade-in rich right now, but I don't mind waiting a little bit to scrape the moolah together.

Be careful when locking in a loan with no money down. If you get into an accident and total the truck and you owe more on it than it's value, you may have to come up with some money. Dealers will always try to sell you gap insurance to cover this offset. Even if you get 8% off on the truck and then you finance in the taxes, dealer fees and PIO options, you can easily be in the negative LTV area.

This. And to take it a step further, I hate to be the fun police, but you really shouldn't be buying a brand new vehicle if you have to finance 100% of it.

I promise your future self will thank you for your restraint, especially when you're plunking down cash for your brand new 2035 Tacoma.

Ha, the original question was how much down payment, not no down payment.

There is one scenario where it makes sense to put little to no money down:

-Take the trade-in dollars and invest them in a high interest-bearing account, assuming that you can:
-Finance the new vehicle at a substantially lower interest rate.

I was able to sell my 3-year old Audi diesel back to VW (remember dieselgate?) at 90% of the purchase price, put the money into a money market, and finance my new purchase with 1K down and a 1.75% interest rate.

Toyota.com is offering 1.99% on non-hybrids, depending on your credit and down payment. I'd assume would be that would affect the price since it says Dealer contribution may vary and could affect price. But you can sure as shit bet I'd be taking my sweet time paying that off.

I received an email offer from a dealership in the SE for 0% financing, so there are some good deals to be had.

I posted earlier that I received an offer from a dealership in the SE for 0% financing, so maybe it's by region.

Whoa, I got 1.99 for 36 months last November. Would have loved to have had 0%!

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure there's a direct trade-off between interest rates and discounts. Last time I bought a car, after I harangued the dealer on all financing options, it became clear I could get a good price or a good rate, not both. Then again, if Toyota is financing independently from the dealer pricing, you might be able to get the best of both worlds. 10% off MSRP and <2%APR would be a sweet deal, if not a cry for help.

I'm not sure in my case. I put 30K down and financed 20K at 1.99 for 36 months after dealer knocked off 6K from the sticker. I'm pretty happy with my deal overall (except for the cheap assed rims on the XP) as the price was tax, title OTD. But I also think I may have done better buying outside of SET's zone. If there's a next time, I am gonna look a lot further out than the North Metro ATL area.

I too could be wrong, but I think that would apply when Toyota is advertising discounts like $1K off or 2.9% financing. The 9 - 10% people are posting on TW are prices they have negotiated with the dealership.

Too little too late but Tennessee is outside of SET. Shop there next time.

    Or use a broker.

It looks like your 2020 almost got back what you paid for it originally, the same as me. I find it hard to justify a 60% increase over a 4 year period and now its 55,000 they are having a laugh. Boycott Tacoma's and watch them come down, patience will prevail.
