Picked her up yesterday. Beyond happy. Love the power! If I did not know it was a 4 banger I would have thought it was a V8 under the hood!

Were you $20k upside down in that Audi? How did you get 37k trade + finance $47k on a $63k truck?

I may have outlined the details incorrectly. My out the door was what I financed, including the value of my trade, which I had 7500 in equity (30k owed), + 10k down

I've never put a deposit down on a new truck before to have the dealer allocate me one, dealer here in Anchorage is asking for $1,000 deposit to secure one. If I do that am I pretty much SOL for any negotiating on price?

Negotiate the price and then give them the deposit.

No. The dealer just want to be sure you’re a serious buyer and not a tire kicker.
You can ultimately ask for the deposit back once you’ve negotiated the price you want.

for me my deposit was $500 on a allocation. But I also negotiated the selling price before committing to a deposit and order. When the truck arrived and it was time for pick up the finance guy asked if I wanted the deposit back or put it towards the down payment.

They sent me a document saying it's non-refundable, I just called them and they said that they also wouldn't talk about price until the vehicle arrives. I told them I'll just wait and see what they have that shows up. Not trying to get screwed on price. Also don't need a new vehicle and mine is paid off so I'll just wait in the meantime. I'm not in need and not in a rush so I have that going for me.

No way it’s nonrefundable. It’s contingent upon inspection of the vehicle when it arrives. You can just find something wrong with it if you wanted to get out of the deposit. Very normal to put down a deposit from what I’ve seen. But the price is fully negotiated with all the costs written down and signed by a manager prior to putting down the deposit. Might be different in Alaska though if there isn’t much competition, so no reason for them to negotiate on the price. How far is the next nearest dealer? Will they give you a better price?

I could ship one up from Seattle if I needed to. Or somewhere else in Washington if it meant getting a better deal, I work down there all the time in Seattle so it wouldn't be a big deal. Just not sure if it would save me much because I was quoted $2500 for barge shipping for a vehicle.

Their little contract they sent me earlier said it was non-refundable lol. I was about to do it until I read that part. They have a lot of 2024 Tacoma's on the lot that under a stop sale for the brake recall and they've all got $2700 mark downs, but I think they'd go even lower since they've been sitting for so long. They probably have 20-25 sitting there which is a lot for Anchorage

I'd prefer a 25 hyrbid offroad premium though. Test drove one today and it was impressive

There's another Toyota dealer in Fairbanks and then one in Juneau but I don't think you'd save anything especially not in Juneau.

Yeah sounds a bit more involved to find a dealer to create competition with. I usually say that I will put down a deposit right now if you agree to xxxxx number. Seems like based on this thread people are getting close to 10% off. Again, that might be harder to do in Alaska. Not really sure.

I’d run from that dealer. That’s a red flag. don’t be afraid to work with dealers out of state.

He is in a tough spot as all the dealers in his state are owned by same company and buying out of state incurs transport cost that could eat up any savings. It’s crap that Toyota allows a monopoly in a state like this.

I traveled 1050 miles (round trip) to get a better deal $3k off on a Trd Pro. No one else would deal, and it was not that big of a deal. The real $hit will hit the fan later this week if/when the tariffs take effect. Negotiations will go out the window on orders until things calm down and settle. Im glad I moved my purchase timing up a few months.
