The Tacoma gets a turbo 2.4L while the Camry 2025 gets a non turbo 2.5L. I guess the turbo makes the diference.

Speaking of Mike, here is what he had to say before the 3rd Gen was released. In case you want to compare Mike Sweers with Sheldon Brown on a new generation introduction.

If he can’t take care of himself…
Don’t know about that. Remember an interview with him about the 2nd Gen Tundra, kept on going on about they couldn’t make the Tundra any bigger, and couldn’t comprehend why people considered it a 7/8ths truck.

ummm Mike that is what the magazines were saying about the 1st Gen, not the second. Owners actually liked the size of the 1st Gen and didn’t want anything bigger. Same with the Tacoma, people put up quite the fuss how big the 2nd Gen Tacoma was when it first came out. Made me realize he wasn’t listening to the customer base.

Manufactures tend to do that, tell us what they think we want and need.

He acknowledges the need to “remediate all that heat”, which shadows the #1 concern that many current owners voice here, yet get turbo-lectured by others. Maybe they aren’t so crazy after all. At least per Sheldon….

“Commercial grade” is starting to sound suspiciously like a marketing talking point (GMC?). Sure they test them harder to anticipate truck use vs passenger car, but if the turbo is simply the same part number bolted on to a diesel used in a delivery truck in Indonesia, then we’re still talking birds of a different feather.

Still no doubt Gen4 will be a fine truck, but if the V6 was the 2.4T’s benchmark for long term durability, then it’s a smart play to hang onto the benchmark, for now. Wouldn’t exactly be excited to run right out and pay a dealer markup to swap a 4.0 on it either, until at least a few years in.

You arent going to learn anything about the reliability of a vehicle by listening to an engineer talk at a press launch. You can use the Tundra as a good indicator and interview dealer techs in 18 months.

Different trucks and engines. I trust this guy over the guessing on here. Time will tell though.

The man stands there and gives you everything you asked for....
    • Stronger frame.
    • Better frame corrosion resistance.
    • Lighter weight everything.
    • Better payload.
    • More power and torque.
    • Engine that doesn't suck at altitude.
    • Manual still available.
    • Longer wheelbase and better ride via multi link suspension.
    • Finally a competent infotainment system.
And the only responses I'm seeing are "he's fat" like that somehow precludes him from running a team of engineers. Oh how this forum has changed over the years...the ironic thing is you asked for all of this stuff and were pissed we didn't have it already. Toyota delivers it and then you slip into old man mode saying, "all this new fangled tech is just gonna break." Like holy shit, pick a freaking side!!! You either want solutions or you don't.

The 1GR-FE is a boat anchor of an engine that's 20 years old at this point. Is it reliable? Hell yeah. Does it produce competent power compared to what's on the market today in the year 2023? Not even close. It's painfully anemic and gets terrible fuel economy as salt in the wound. The 3rd gen engine isn't an improvement on that either...

A turbo 4 is going to do VERY well in this truck. Can't wait to hear all the people flip flopping after they've tuned theirs and are yielding 60+ wheel torque and HP gains with just software (look at the highlander tunes out right now).

Thats because they don't like the answers that go against their narrative. So, go to insults because, no where else to go.

Don't understand why people have to shame people on their weight. He's probably well aware and people struggle with it every day, myself included...

Perfect example of the ad hominem fallacy. Typically shows the person's lack of knowledge, poor reasoning, and/or bias when used in an argument.

It isn’t ignorance. I lost 100 pounds off my fat fuck self.

The room in Toyota trucks has been heavily scrutinized since inception. The 4th gen is no exception and there has been quite a bit of discussion about it.

When I saw Sheldon, it was a knee jerk reaction because I used to be similar. Sorry. I literally wondered if Chief could get back there. Shoulda kept my mouth shut. I have no filter on many occasions.

Same as those "high duty starters" they use for the ridiculous start/stop mechanism in automatic vehicles these days. Pure marketing wank.

I hope not. I just bought a hybrid that has start/stop.
