You've said quite a bit about this. I suggest moving on, both of us.

I put a bunch of weight on when I herniated a disc in my back. Couldn’t do much of anything for a year and half, busted my ass and ate better to loose it.

My mothers side always struggled with their weight and tend not to live long because of the complications that comes along with it. Wife got colon cancer in 2020, we are on a very strict diet because it. Younger and younger people are getting colon cancer, mostly because of our poor American diet. They bumped up the screening to 45 instead of 50. Her surgeon said they should bump it to 40.

    Did I quote you?

Sure sounds like some are taking it personally.

Sorry don’t trust this new Tacoma to be as reliable as the old ones.

WTF does someone's weight have to do with their work?

If someone is passionate about something they make amazing things.

"some" individuals face obsesity, however it may have no relation to their inteligence, at all--

Obesity often results from a combination of causes and contributing factors:

    Family inheritance and influences
The genes you inherit from your parents may affect the amount of body fat you store, and where that fat is distributed. Genetics also may play a role in how efficiently your body converts food into energy, how your body regulates your appetite and how your body burns calories during exercise.

    Certain diseases and medications
In some people, obesity can be traced to a medical cause, such as hypothyroidism, Cushing syndrome, Prader-Willi syndrome and other conditions. Medical problems, such as arthritis, also can lead to decreased activity, which may result in weight gain.

Some medicines can lead to weight gain if you don't compensate through diet or activity. These medicines include steroids, some antidepressants, anti-seizure medicines, diabetes medicines, antipsychotic medicines and certain beta blockers.

Speculating on the cause/reason behind Sheldon's weight issue is fruitless unless you know his full medical history.

No, you can respond, but my comment was directed at steve. Sure sounds like you’re offended, cause you keep squawking.

Wasn’t meant to be a joke, was pointing out the gross excess of everything and anything we Americans we lust after. Sheldon looks like a man of excess. The new Tacoma is a prime example, they are chasing power numbers, there is no need for a mid-size to have 465 lbs of torque. Finally get a hybrid Tacoma, and they aim at all out power rather than efficiency, and reliability most likely will take a hit. Think gone are the days of the 500’000-1’000’000 mile engines. We live in a careless throwaway society who could give two shits about taking care of themselves and their surroundings so why does it matter…

Personally rather have a truck engineered and designed by skinny Japanese guys, and manufactured in Japan, but that is just me… lol! If they chain smoke might be able to let that pass as long as they engineered a 1’000’000 mile Toyota. :)

There are a lot of assumptions in there.

Lol also almost no one cares about 500k miles let alone 1M. It's a novelty at best. Only a very small percentage of vehicle owners will ever see those kinds of numbers.

200k-300k is more than enough. At 20k miles a year it will take between 10-15 years to hit. By that time tech/safety has changed so much it's time to get something new.

Mike Sweers argued against turbos for years and years, so now all of the sudden they are good? Turbos on a diesel are beneficial, not so much on gassers.

The longer products last, the less impact on the environment there is. We live in a society of insatiable consumerism, so highly doubtful things will change as you said the mass majority don’t really care. Things will only get worse until we use up the planets finite resources.

Lol. What in the world? Turbos on gas cars aren't good? Are you just making things up?

I agree, the world needs to do a better job at reducing its consumption, that's a huge issue, but be realistic. It's expensive to keep cars on the road that long regardless. Again, tech/safety changes a lot in 10-15 years, it's worth it.

How long till you hit 500k on that '99? Why did you buy that '21? it's wasteful. Should have bought a used 15 year old one to put 750k miles on it instead.

Not making things up. Fairly well known that gas turbos don’t have the longevity as NA engines. Diesels fair much better, though the overseas Toyota diesels went from a 500K mile service interval to 250K. I suspect the new gas turbo will be around a 150-200K engine before it needs major repair.

‘99 has 435K on it. Wife talked me into the new truck much to my chagrin. Took her years to convince me, almost backed out of the day I wrote the check. Go into the backcountry often, usually once a week or more. The 1G was getting to the point of it was breaking down too much for me to trust it anymore.

The ‘99 blew a head gasket, thought it was better to put a whole new engine in it than going through the trouble of doing both heads, with the uncertainty of when the bottom end would let go.

We still have it and my wife drives it, she is the same as me, thought keeping the old truck going was better than buying a new one for her.

Nothing is built to last anymore, have purchased a brand new range and fridge, they were defective right out of the box. Replaced our 50+ year furnace, the new one already needed warranty work only two years old. It is frustrating, the timeline of engineered obsolescence is getting shorter and shorter, all for selling us more and more shit. It works because the masses are easily caught up in “oh look shiny!” I just want buy it once and make it last as long as possible.

Have been driving Toyotas for 30+ years, stories of their incredible longevity is what made me buy my first one, and personal experience has kept me with the brand. This new engine is going to take a lot of convincing and real world miles to see if it is any good, really won’t know for years though.

Funny but hey, Tacoma is midsize truck. It is not meant for long trips , comfort etc, for that you have 4runner or sequoia. Besides, there is nothing wrong of having a belly at that age, that means you have made it in your life and you have a proof to show it.

As a fat guy who drives a Tacoma, I am learning a whole bunch about myself in this thread.

In certain places in Asia, having some girth is a taken as a sign of success according to my Asian wife. I was treated well there.

Sheldon would be revered as a deity lol.

Also, the people saying Sheldon won't fit in the backseat are showing him reaching into the back of the Xtracab, where there are no back seats, or backdoors.

The point was of the Xtra Cab picture, would have been a hell of a lot easier to load/unload gear if they kept the Access Cab, big guys, skinny guys and everyone in between. If the head engineer is having trouble just showing the cubbies, what does that say about the design and his engineering skills? Guess that was lost on some people judging by the responses, and maybe my snide comment was because I am still pissed they discontinued the AC. Apparently some people took offense to it.

They totally screwed the Tacoma’s storage access in the Xtra Cab, and the DCs new rear seats how they fold isn’t the best. Perhaps they should actually listen to their customers??? Yeah???

While this pertains to the 2014 Tundra, believe it should apply to the Tacoma. An old interview with Sweers.

    https://tundraheadquarters.com/sweers-defends-2014-tundra/

    Q. What was something current owners told you that surprised you?

    A. We found that 88 percent of our crew cab customers didn’t like the rear seats. We spent all this time and effort to make this great seat that reclines, tilts and slides. And all the time, they just wanted a flip-up seat so they could store more stuff. I don’t want to spend money to dissatisfy our customers.

Depends what success is defined as. Is it the size of our bank accounts, all the things we accumulate, the size of our bellies, or is it happiness? Americans with our excessive life styles, might be saying we are forever searching for happiness, and no matter how much we accumulate, we can never fill that void.
