I'm sure the new Tacoma will be awesome as I already know the new Tundra's are ! Funny, I seriously loved my 2.5 gen platinum and had done a fair amount of quality mods, but really don't miss it and wouldn't want to go back. Toyota really hit a home run IMO.

...except the prices, really sucks but still better than the big three, and inflation is affecting everything across the board.

I just wish they would put a V6 in it and not an I4. I get the turbo but a V6 could easily outlast a turbo 4 and get great mileage, it has been shown before. An 8spd with a 3.0-4.0 sized V6 should be able to cruise around with little load on the engine sipping gas. A silverado gets the same mileage with a bigger v6 as a 3.5 in a tacoma and that makes no sense.

What V6 are they still using in the Silverado though besides the diesel? Their turbo 4 banger is getting 19/21/20 in a 2WD.

‘21 was the last year for 4.3 Ecotech. So not that long ago. mpg is roughly the same as the T4, albeit a bit down on power, bit less complicated and arguably under less stress.

It sure seems like Nissan made a better choice the last 2 models. 4.0 5 speed and now 3.8 8 speed.

I'm a newb to all of this though.....been driving 4.0 I6 Jeeps from 1995 until last week!

I dont think they are using one anymore but they got the same mpg as most get with their tacomas. 4cylinders are great and have their place. All I'm saying is with the mpg they get out of fullsize trucks with v6s and v8s, there is no reason they couldn't be getting better in a lighter midsize with equivalent engines with way less load and wear and tear. Take the engine from a fillsize truck that is getting 19 combined and stick it in a truck that weights 1000ish lbs less and it should get in the mid 20s combined.

Dunno….1st Gen Tundra is about the same size and weight of 3rd Gen Tacoma. 4.7 V8 gets about the same mpg as the 3.5 V6. Bunch more torque too so the engine didn’t have to work as hard.

Plenty of room under the hood of the 3rd Gen.

That always annoyed me about the 3rd gen. Bunch of wasted space in front of the radiator. Put that length in the cab or the bed.

It's probably there for crash safety or pedestrian impact.

Just give it a 4ft bed instead.

I heard a rumor that it was for future pedestrian impact standards that never came to be. At any rate no other manufacturer used that much space.

Same, why the front end of the 3rd Gen is so goofy looking. Wide mouth bass with an underbite. Lol!

Yep. Same reason they ditched the access cab, supposed future crash standards.

Saw that Volvo is developing pedestrian airbags, shame it has become such an issue. Maybe if people learned to look both ways before crossing the street. When my better half was in grad school…lost count of how many students would step right out in front of me without looking. A 4000lbs truck with an ARB bumper, they certainly would loose that fight. :)
