If I bought an early 24’ would anyone pay $5 a month on patreon for a monthly “reliability report”?

    I drive approximately 72k miles a year.

^ Have you ever considered getting a different job or changing your life so you drive less? I don't drive 72,000 miles in 5 years and I make a heck of a living.

There is TFL video where they show the 4th Gens increased turning radius, engine did have somewhat diesel sounds as he tried to maneuver the sharp corner.

We’ll know how reliable they are in a few years.

It sounds like an amazing machine. I’ll be picking one up in a few years for sure. The only question is 6 speed manual or full hybrid automatic. Hmmm

    Itz JDM tyte, yo!
I’m keeping an open mind to see how this turbo 4 would go reliability wise. Especially the gas model with the 6-speed manual

Toyota manufactured turbo motors 25~30 years ago that are still highly desired in performance swaps (1JZ-GTE and 2JZ-GTE). They've probably learned a few things in all those years.

Has anyone wondered how having the catalytic converter housed inside the engine compartment under the hood next to the engine/exhaust manifold on the 2024 Turbo 4 banger will add to the known turbo generated heat production? What happens to under hood temps when you turn the engine (and coolant flow) off and that catalytic converter is still roasting hot?

What is the normal temperature for a catalytic converter?

Normal operating temperatures of a converter are 500-800°F, and up to 1200°F when the vehicle is under heavy load.

I wasn't aware that there were tunes available for the Highlander. So that's the same engine that Sheldon Brown said is designed to be 50% stronger for the Tacoma?

BTW, even without tunes this 2.4 Turbo is packing more punch than any Tacoma engine before it. To reach peak torque under 2000 RPM and with and 8-speed auto that sounds like a good driving experience to me. With those numbers gear-hunting should be almost non-existent. There's another video that has a 3rd gen chassis/engine next to a 4th gen chassis/engine. In there the gentleman mentions that they tested the engine at different angles to simulate people off-roading at those extreme angles. I wonder if that's a response to some of the 3rd gens having the smoke-on-incline issues? I've seen a few posts on here about that but never witnessed this on any of the 3rd gens my friends have had. It also seems to happen on some 2019 and older models, I haven't seen/read/heard of this happening on the 2020-2023 models. Maybe it's been fixed?

I believe the low volume of vettes changes the calculus on CAFE. It is, after all, a corporate average

I guess, but then it's no different than Toyota pulling the 3.5 off the shelf for the 3rd gen. Manufacturers trying to have as few engines as possible has been a thing for as long as the industry has existed.
