In, birthdays a couple days after and this is 100% how I wanna spend it the more remote the better I say, even if I gotta hike it.

Awesome idea! I’ve got mondays off next spring so there is a really high potential we could make it. Bummer southern Vermont is not in the path as I know a ton of good free camping spots.

 

All of the easily accessible spots are gonna be shitshows for sure, but come on out dude!

 

Doubt I can make it, think that’s the week before school vacation and I need to save my personal days for college visits and graduation things.

 

I will have to see what is going on closer to that time as I'm hoping to have a new job soon so it will depend on what my schedule is like. But I like the idea

 

Sub'd ... I was considering Arkansas. I can't believe it but I messed up the campsite reservation and missed reserving the night before. Only the day of which won't help much. I'm an idiot. I was planning to do the eclipse down there and a day or two of mountain biking in Bentonville then go towards Hot SPrings.

Anyway.

I did the 2017 version in Sweetwater, TN. It's a fun time. Lots of weird energy from people lol. All in all, it's quick. A few minutes. But worth the effort, especially if you've never experienced one. MIddle of the day and street lights come on, crickets start chirping and temperature drops quickly! It's really pretty wild.

So yea, I might be to change my location if we could manage a big group camp setup something, somewhere. Definitely needs to be in the path of totality though.

All right, thanks y'all for input so far. This is what I've got for spots so far - green is good, yellow is mediocre/unknown, red is bad.

This is what I'm working with for the map - we need to be on the blue line.

 

I think anywhere between the two red lines will achieve totality, but the closer to the blue line gives you a longer time at totality.

 

I'm not driving 7 hours each way and dealing with camping in the cold weather to not be on or significantly near that blue line

 

Fair enough. I can't imagine all that build up in anticipation for something to only to be over too quick. Nope, can't imagine anything like that at all...

Plattsburgh might be tame enough that you're not fighting the masses, and is close enough to some Blue Line action. Tons of places in Clinton/Essex Counties. Just a thought.

 

Aroostook state park is just up the road on Route 1 from the blue line.
