:spy: Don't think I'm not above doing this and paddling out if the lake's calm. And the only time it wouldn't be calm is in a storm where there's clouds and no eclipse anyway.

I already have an anchor in my Amazon cart for this summer in NMW to tie off and hang out out there.

    Also, this:

    upload_2024-1-24_14-54-35.jpg

But that's for the summer, not April when it's mud season and cold anyway

    Paging @BadDNA

He mapped out a great route up there, I still have it in Strava, so I can bring a handful of trucks up there - just don't want it to turn into a 15 truck event type of thing.

There's a lot of good wandering around up in the NEK. I really should do more exploring, but I seem to always find myself back on the same couple of routes whenever I try.

FYI ... again, lol. Since I see some chatter about VT - if you're heading around in your travels for this and looking for scenic routes, be aware that RT 108 over Stowe (The Notch Road) is usually closed throughout winter. Also, bit farther up RT58 is also 'not maintained' for winter. Shame as that's a nice short forest road area. Maybe the more adventurous of you could try and make it heh heh.

I can't remember even around when on average either of these opens up after snow time. There may be others closed for thru also, just these two off the top of my head since they contact RT100. It may be listed somewhere online to check before you plan, or BadDNA may know better than me.

Also, if somehow you end up at Lake Carmi I'm crashing.... with chips and salsa  I'm 4 miles from there.

I can say that the expected estimates (below), heck even 10K, would / will overwhelm St. Albans proper. The majority of streets off the couple main ones are barely 1.5 cars wide. The little baseball BBQ park down the road looking west out onto the lake at full eclipse would be a beauty, but I thnk it will be wall to wall walmarters wally-ing it up there.

    https://www.mychamplainvalley.com/e...officials-prepare-for-60000-eclipse-tourists/
"Big crowds may be a bit of an understatement, as local officials are preparing for about 60,000 people to travel to St. Albans Town, more than four times the town’s population.
Other concerns include long lines at the gas pumps and cellular service networks being overwhelmed by the influx of people."

    https://www.vermontpublic.org/show/...his-springs-eclipse-how-is-the-area-preparing
"...and St. Albans town and city lie directly in the path of totality. That means an area with fewer than 15,000 people is about to get a lot of visitors—tens of thousands of visitors, to be more exact.
Arleigh Young, the planning and development coordinator for St. Albans city, said the state of Vermont is estimating about 200,000 people will visit for the eclipse, but stressed that it doesn't mean 200,000 will come to St. Albans."

I truly wish you guys the best in trying to get set up, but you might be behind in reserving an actual spot to crash if coming up this way. Some mentioned in the above articles they were already getting booked up well over a year ago.

Might have to just expect to drive into the area and stop by the side of some open road like lots of others?? I actually plan on putting up a legit barrier in my driveway to keep the vermin out, as technically we're right on the line. Luckily (?) we're in a bad position on our road to get any decent view - north facing hill in tight woods - but will be wary of those trying to find their way in for something better. I will not be leaving our property for a day or two on each side of this.

    :infantry:
