I'd buy in if it weren't for the DEF. I just swapped in my 1500 chevy diesel that, I assure you, I wanted to love. But a massive disappointment ... DEF issues that I think they got fixed? Maybe? Multiple hard start problems that I'm still not convince was solved. Made me sad. I quickly returned to a Tacoma. If the big T came out with a diesel in the US, I'd look at it but if the gov't requires the DEF on it.... hard pass from me. As with anything that's just one guy's opinion, YMMV.

I agree… they did fix it “so they say” I have it in my wife’s Cadillac but I don’t use DEF that part weighed to much.. lol it was gone about a week after I bought it.

I don't like like smelling diesel exhaust, but I'd like to see a study showing what the net benefit of the DEF system is environmentally and financially. All the system components have to be manufactured and transported along with the fluid itself, Plus the maintenance and replacement parts.

It’s all semantics. Not a single diesel I own uses DEF or has a EGR and they smell worse than anything pre those components. My buddy’s 7.3 has no smell. I don’t put over sized injectors in my stuff they are adequate for my set ups. I am not a fan of black smoke either. Look at the old VW tdi’s they were sold but not compliant but they never smoked or smelled. That how diesels should be. Buy the time you refine diesel to become gas the damage is already done so why not just use diesel? Def is piss the components that burn the soot in the dpf take shits on a daily basis. Now you got def in Plastic and cardboard I’ve never understood the physics or philosophy behind it

I think Jeep Gladiator pickup is the only was to get a mid-sized diesel truck now, GM ditched the diesel and V6 and went strictly turbo 4.

Huh? They have the right width of 8.5” I was talking about the offset of +15, my stock pro wheels are +13, that would mean I’d be bringing my wheel 2 mm closer towards the UCA. By going -10, I’m going outward 23mm.
I don’t want my 285/70-17 to rub on the UCA

    TE37XTR 17x8.5 +15
    ~
    TE37XT Mspec 17x8.5 -10

    I mentioned nothing about width…

You might be right. I read something about GM switching all the mid size trucks to a single engine, but the diesel is still on their site.

Yes you did metion offset and not wheel width. I was a bit tired when I made that post. When I said wide I was referring more to poke and offset with the wheel being pushed farther out from the suspension and poking out past the fenders.

I was also making a quick dimwitted remark about JDM wheel manufacturers setting the trend in Japanese wheels, by not offering the negative offset version of their latest style wheels.

I prefer the old style negative offset TE myself.

Unrelated to Japanese wheels. The popularity of the 20and up × 12and wider bro style wheels wheels seem to be going down.

OEM truck wheels are sitting more inside the wheel arches and the positive offset are going higher.

I don't want to ruffle any feathers with the new Tundra crowd. I'm not sure if the negative offset wide stance look works on the new Tundra or not.

The only reliable powertrain of the future. I'll be making this mod to my taco when SHTF.

Not so fast... the gov't requires you have charcoal filters on those asses and they need to be licensed, inspected, and emissions tested yearly.

I'd be willing to put a C note down that we will NEVER see a diesel here in the US. The tree huggers hate them, and after-treatment systems are stupid expensive and problematic to keep going. I wont even debate this....I work on a lot of late model diesels and if you saw how many sensors are on the DPF and converters (not to mention O2, NOX and DEF modules and injectors mounted directly to these components) you'd probably run away fast if you were smart. Price that shit out and you'll need some diapers. The ONLY place a diesel belongs right now is in heavy equipment.
Rumors of Toyota's hydrogen powered technology may even out shadow the EV.
That said , I understand why many would like a diesel option, but those benefits are outweighed by the cost of fuel and repairs (in a modern diesel).
But who really knows? I don't think the automakers are even sure where we are going with this......that horse drawn cart is actually looking pretty good, unless they start requiring methane management systems tied to the horses ass.

EV > ICE in 95% of all daily use situations.

    Toyota is really falling behind.
