Good question....as long as uncle sugar tits keeps tipping the scales I think that will be a hard one to answer. It is easy to figure out consumer cost savings for operating one as long as you don't factor in battery life. But I wonder if the upfront cost of an EV is helping drive the ICE cost up more. I just wish there was a PHEV midsize truck...or any truck for that matter.

I'm thinking Toyota will go PHEV in the Taco in the next few model years. Then the BEV version will be here in 2026. In a Taco or Tundra or something else is unknown.

Ford said they are spreading the cost around they have to they don't sell enough EV. I think GM said the same. I don't know what Stellantis will do, probably the same. What other manufacturers are doing I have no idea probably the same. I have no interest in a PHEV midsize truck, I don't really care for the hybrid offerings out there now other than the on board power capabilities. I don't need that, but it's nice to have.

Same. Current truck runs on stored solar energy already, so….

By then this bogus electric vehicle fade will have largely passed and will be the same old limited market vehicle they have always been. People seem to forget that electric vehicles have been around since the beginning of the automobile and in fact at the very beginning were the dominate vehicle on the road until people figured out they are not as useful as internal combustion engine vehicles. Nothing has changed in this regard.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but no DPF and no DEF are not going to happed, you are mandated by the EPA to have both systems in place. DEF and DPF have ruined diesels.

So in 2026/2027 no one in the world will be buying EV's and all car mfgs. will switch back to ICE engines?

There will be the same small segment that will buy electric vehicles but they are not going to over take combustion engine vehicles without the government forcing them on people and that is not going to work out well for the government. The Ford Lightning has been a huge failure when it used as a work truck, I don't think I have seen more than 2 lightnings since they came out where I live.

This is the deal, California already has to ask people not to charge their EV's on certain days because their electric grid is already taxed and there are not that many electric vehicles on California roads right now. Think for a minute if as California wants to do make everyone own an electric car that will be millions of EV's just in California, their electric grid would crash completely.

Here is another problem what about all the people who live in apartments? how are they supposed to charge their electric vehicles? Are you going to force the owner of the complex to spend millions of dollars just to put in electric vehicle chargers for all the parking spaces because that is what will have to be done.

I just read where there is a place they will not allow you to install a charger in an enclosed structure because of the issue of the batteries catching on fire.

Well you're misinformed on a lot that you said. Sorry you don't have all the facts. There's an EV thread to discuss EV's and hopefully will clear up a lot of your misinformation.

So what am I misinformed on other than propaganda put out by EV proponents.

The Lightning failed the tow test by TFL did not even make it 100 miles, that is not the first time TFL has had an electric vehicle fail them while towing either.

If the public wanted electric vehicles then electric vehicles would not be backing up on dealer lots and Ford would not be losing over 2 billion dollars this past year in the electric vehicle division, what is it something like Ford loses over $30,000 dollars on each electric vehicle they sell.

Only a very small segment of society wants an electric vehicle.

All of this has been gone over at nauseum. Basically you're fine if you want to keep an ICE vehicle. JUst keep buying them. Some want to buy an EV. That's on them and they need to decide wisely. They aren't going anywhere.

Would love an EV if they weren’t so dang expensive, that and the whole range/recharge thing for traveling. It will get there, hopefully sooner rather than later.

Yeh, it's just not good enough yet. Toyota's SS batteries and recharge times that are upcoming could be the tipping point for some.

The Tesla Y is #1 selling automobile in the world. Period. It’s not a fad. People want them. Maybe not you, and that’s cool, but anyone who thinks they aren’t the future just sounds silly.

Well they don't want them to be real. I was skeptical when I drove one. My next purchase will be an EV.

The current iteration of EV's will not be the future. I won't even consider getting an EV until the charge time is equivalent or less than it takes at the pump. Why, you ask? I live in a hurricane prone area. After an evacuation is called, gas stations have 30+ minute wait times... If you're lucky. I can't even imagine the wait times for a charging station, especially when they fluctuate charging speeds based on demand (which would be significantly higher at a time like that). Nope.

Toyota announced their SOlid State battery tech coming by 2027. 700 mile + range, sub 10 min 0-100% charge time. The time is nigh!

That certainly did interest me when I read about that. But until then, I can't feasibly go full EV. Non-plug in hybrids (like the 4th Gen) can work for me now without issue.
