Some real world dragstrip testing results. My bone stock 2024 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 TRD Off Road double cab long bed automatic transmission on 87 octane regular unleaded went 15.84 @ 87 MPH.

With an AFE Momentum GT Cold Air Intake System w/ Pro 5R Filter on 92 octane super unleaded it went slower 16.09 @ 86 MPH in the 1/4 mile. Riddle me that. Stillen said their truck dyno’d 20 more HP on 92 octane when they switched from 87.

Both runs were in 4HI no wheelspin in Sport mode.

Also, run it in 2wd. Car and Driver did testing and the Tacoma ran faster in 2wd than 4hi.

Stock tunes are weird, you'd think it would advance the hell out of the timing and let boost climb a smidge higher, but it clearly didnt.

It's not a perfect test, both runs are basically identical.

    Clearly a tune is next.

    Did you stall launch?

i had the intake installed and been running it on 92 octane since November 2024.

I had ran 15.5x @92ish mph a couple times with under 1K mi on the odo. I posted time slips at the time.

    At sea level.

You changed 2 variables and did only 1 run each?

Try 1 variable at a time with 10 runs per averaged.

Were the humidity and temperature the same during both configurations?

Was the tank filled exactly the same amount each run?

Were the tires, tire pressure, and tread wear identical for each run?

Did you forget to take out the kid's car seat with the second run?

Are you going to pay his drag strip fees?

Why would I? I don't give a fuck about quarter mile times in a stock pickup.

But these results are meaningless as is.

No wheelspin. I flat the rear tires to 20 psi.

i did multiple passes. These were the best runs from each outing. The “stock” runs and “modded” runs were 1 year apart at different events at the same track with same conditions. Same tires, same pressures. I went in with a full gas tank at both events. Truck was the same weight at both events as well. I tried to make everything the same to keep everything consistent. It’s a yearly 4x4 Shootout and they put up more than $10,000 in prizes.

Was the first gen racing too? Or was it going to fix the sprinklers at the end of the strip?

If there's no traction advantage I don't see how it would be faster.
