Hey guys, i just bought my 2024 Tacoma about a week ago and i’m looking to see what all modifications i want to do to the truck for the future and the first things i’m looking to do is add a subwoofer to my system. I have the non JBL system with the 14 inch stereo and i’m wondering if i should do the research to learn how to splice the audio signal from the stock harnesses or just use a plug n play amp like the beat sonic amp. I’m not too experienced in adding audio to a car as the most i’ve done is add an aftermarket stereo to my past 2 cars, so any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

That thread has good info. There are a few other threads as well. Another source of info is taco tunes. They have plug-n-play setups as well. I installed the beat sonic amp, and used their dongle/cable to add a separate amp and sub. There are a multitude of ways to get what you want done. I chose to go plug-n-play this time.

Having a '17 and a '22 Non-JBL Taco before this new '25 Non-JBL the stereo seems much better than the Gen 3's with more power. I've read a lot of threads including the ones posted but all seem to want to add an amp. I'm going to replace the dash and front door speakers 1st as I think that will be enough for me. Anybody else see where someone has done that without an amp or sub?

Agreed, the base stereo in my 3G was really disappointing so I did a complete rip and replace of the headunit, speakers, amp, subwoofer. I figured I would have to do the same thing with my 4G, but once I sat in it, I discovered that the base stereo is pretty decent!

I have a good stereo setup at home now so I don't really feel the need to blast it in my truck. Probably will just leave it alone because the weird series-wired dash/door speakers means getting an ohm match is going to be difficult because aftermarket speakers don't really cater to this application, and the headunit is no longer a standard double-DIN. From an audio perspective, the ideal solution would be to replace the headunit with an aftermarket 6-channel unit so you can wire up each speaker independently, but then it's not going to look OEM at all. Just not worth the trouble.

Yeah the base system actually has some range lol the doors can produce good low end. Not sure if I'd spend any money on it beyond replacing the doors if they blow up one day.

Coming from someone who knows audio stuff, it's genuinely not bad.
