^Lol the Tesla should still have had a brake service done to prevent the calipers from seizing.

I don't know why the servicing dealer is trying to shift blame. The strut mount and cap are made of cheap potmetal (new for 2024!) and the cap is known to pop out. It's well publicized. The cap wouldn't have been missing during PDI. It's Toyota's defect. The dealer didn't build the truck.

Missing during PDI, no, already broken, maybe? Good news is the dealer isn't accusing him of abusing the truck and it breaking. I'm amazed how easy these things are breaking.

Given how hard the vehicles are jumped from boxcar to boxcar during transport to dealers, the strut mounts could've cracked on arrival yes.

What an embarrassment for Toyota. That truck cost $68,000 in Canada and the suspension is literally broken from 1500km of normal driving. Wow. Guess they don’t make them like they used to.

Hopefully they do a TSB or recall for these, just seems like a matter of time until failure.

I could totally see one of these failing quickly if you drive in Atlanta or another city with crap roads; I used to hit the bump stops occasionally from just normal driving.

    Listen….
In certain situations where part is on backorder and no ETA, you can contact the manufacture or work with your dealership to contact the manufacturer warranty dept and they will pay for that icon plate, as you provided them with a solution, get it done and they can get you out of the rental they’re paying for…
You just have to go through the proper channels and get them to cover it, been a dealer technician for 35 years…
Ive done it many times for ford...
especially a quality part like the icon plate, its a win / win....

    Wasting time....

I'm having trouble getting past what looks like felt fender liners. Is that what I'm seeing? Interior trunk grade panel for fender wells?

I would love to see a picture of the broken part after it's removed (Edit: Anyone have a picture of a removed intact upper mount? I can't find any googling and Toyota's online diagram looks like it was made by a toddler with crayons.)

Spoke to Toyota Canada with this process and idea on Monday.. Was told they are reaching out to the manufacturer and will have a response within 2 days.. it is Friday and I called back, person is out of office. Fun times.

Dealership called Thursday and said no update yet “can try to call Toyota Canada to do something”. Just a wild duck chase with me and my Malibu.

If after market shocks solve the problem, I know what I would do.

Not sure what the issue is … parts on back order . Dealership is doing everything they can to get the part .They gave u a loaner on their dime and are going to fix the issue . No point in complaining just have to be patient and it will get resolved . Does it suck ya but at least it’s not as bad as when ford had issues with the shifting fork on the mustang and people were out of their vehicles for 6 months or more .

You’d rather wait a little longer for an actual fix rather than a quick turnaround with the same part that’ll break again soon. If, that’s what’s going on here.

    Worth a shot...
    Ive done it many times.......
If the guy behind the bean counter at Toyota making the warranty / resolution decisions & knows how to get the warranty claim paid using an aftermarket quality part like the Icon...
Would be a no-brainer, get customer out of the $75 a day rental, be the hero & get him back in his car...
There needs to be an understanding though, that they install both sides & not just the broken side. This needs to be said before proceeding. Some folks have tunnel vision & cant see the big picture...

If you already havent, give the writer the website link via email...

2024 Tacoma Hybrid Off Road Premium. In Canada. My right shock top hat blew on a pothole after 6000km on a forest service road. I watched as F150s, older Tacos, Rangers and Subarus hit the same pothole for 2 hours with no problem. I had truck towed to Squamish Toyota 3 weeks ago and its still there. I've called multiple times and been told "We'll call you when it's done." WTF? How can Toyota sell a truck with a design flaw then not have parts for it when it breaks? It's the first Toyota I've owned and I bought Toyota based on my understanding that they offered excellent quality and outstanding customer service. It's the 2nd issue requiring warranty repair I've had with the truck so far. I've never owned a vehicle that has broken twice in the first 6 months and required so long to fix. And the worst part is that when they do fix the truck it'll be 'fixed' to the same condition it was before it broke and will undoubtedly break again. I'm hopeful this will be a recall given the number of vehicles affected so far. Maybe it will take a highway failure leading to death to make that happen? I'm already regretting the purchase but don't really know where to go from here other than waiting to get it back and break it again. Maybe there is an aftermarket shock I could use to replace and ask Toyota to foot the bill? susptophat.jpg

Shitty design, for sure but it’s such a great truck overall. Be patient, it’ll get fixed. This thread reminded me to buy the Icon top plate. $73 and free shipping is a no-brainer.

And you can’t blame it on the tariff since this is in Canada, its own manufacturing factory.
