My photo angle isn’t precise, but the cap is perfectly flush with the cab and when looking at the roof of both, the lines line up. That means it’s lined up left to right

Here is my misalignment. I had to get very flush to really notice it, I am not upset about it.PXL_20240816_195650386.MP.jpg PXL_20240816_195723896.MP.jpg

Same as others have posted, mine is slightly less than 1/2 inch non-symmetrical. Likely would have never noticed had I not read this thread.

This is a result of Toyota’s “good enough” philosophy and has been going on for quite awhile. Not sure about Gen 2’s but if you search the Gen 3 forum you’ll find a video of the assembly line that shows the bed being installed and they probably have the same sequence for the Gen 4 assembly line. It’s an easy fix to straighten it out, just loosen the bed bolts and then align the bed to the cab.

At the current asking prices for these trucks, the expected body and interior fit-and-finish level(s) should be: Lexus. In other words: perfect or near perfect. Ten years ago, that is where it was. The component alignments and gaps I see on my truck are perfect on every panel. The gaps are so good, it grabs your attention and from any angle: including from above.

Checked mine and yep its off by 0.5in or so. It really pisses me off too. I paid their premium price and what did i get? Crappy, low quality workmanship. Oh and the tail gate is hanging out 0.5in on one corner as well.

It ain’t your father’s Toyota anymore. I had a 40 year career in quality assurance and have owned Toyota’s since 1977 and have seen the slippery slide over the years. It’s the same with all manufacturers but it’s still sad to see.

At the Local Downey dealership every single Tacoma on the lot looks like this. You cannot find one that is centered and at the same time all their tundras are perfectly fine and centered. Alas…,
Once again I brought it to the attention of one of their salesman and he could hardly believe it but there it was clear as day
    Now you cannot unsee it
I’ll bet by the time the 25,s roll out this should be cleared up

What the world needs is a Tacoma made in Japan

Hate to be that "Back in my day...." guy, but yeah, I think you're correct. I park next to a guy at work who has a 2008 Tacoma. He noticed my truck and said, "Yeah, I was looking at those. Not sure if I want to sell this one (his) because it's worked so well."

I said, well how many miles you got on that thing?

    "300,000"

WTF? Seriously? It looks great! I had no clue.

"Yeah, I just don't like car payments. It's been decent."

I'm looking at my truck and I'm like, I just don't see how the 2024s will go 300,000. I really don't. I'm not rooting for it to fail, as I clearly have skin in the game, but I'll be shocked if the slow degradation and insane complexity of modern vehicles benefits anyone except the manufacturers and dealers. The reality is nobody is making a true mid-sized truck anymore with a 6' bed that's not absolutely bloated in features, but cutting corners at every imaginable opportunity to squeeze every penny of profit out of it.

Just picked up my 24 today and mine looks exactly like yours on the same side. Thanks to this forum I knew what to look for and mentioned it to them. I'm going to take it back next week to be aligned, it's going to tear up the stupid spray in bed-liner by loosening the bolts so they will have it re-sprayed after adjustment and top off the gas tank for me.

They had 4 Tacoma's on the lot, 3 were off to the left and 1 was perfect but it was a 2x4 Sport. My RAM 2500 I traded in was off to the right a good bit, never did do anything about it.

Holy crap. Did they hire the rejects from Tesla? I do not have the same back window glass as yours. Mines only off by probably a quarter inch or less.

Decided not to wait for the dealer to fix it and did it myself. What I think it actually is, is the bed may not have been made with tight tolerances vs just the alignment. On the picture showing between the cab and bed, it's hard to see in the picture but obvious in person. Adjusting the bed from left to right was creating a larger gap in this area on one side. Might just be because of how they drilled the holes in the bed & how much adjustment those holes give you.... I dunno, but I didn't want to end up with a cooked bed vs an offset bed. From the factory with the offset bed, the bolt holes lined up perfectly dead center with the frame. They give you mayyyybe a quarter inch of adjustment before you wouldn't be able to thread the bolt.

Anyways, I went with a compromise between that left to right gap between the bed and cab - and the bed's left to right alignment, leaving it off around 1 to 1 1/2mm on the left side which also gave 1 to 1 1/2mm off in the gap "larger gap on the right side." You can see from one of the pictures, how much the bed moved vs were the bolt went back in. To the eye, it's now not noticeable at all. Zero chance the dealer would have realized that they might be creating an angle on the bed while moving it left to right if I had let them do it.

From the factory, my bumper gap between the bumper and bed was already larger on the left side, this adjustment increased that gap and it's now much larger on the left vs right. I don't know how to adjust the bumper but in person this isn't noticeable unless you really look for it so I'm not super worried. To me, the bed was noticeable since it is skinnier than the cab and there was a giant difference at eye level. Mine was off around a quarter inch but it looked like a half inch visually.

Notes for anyone that wants to do it. I literally have no idea what I'm doing & it took me a little less than 2 hours with a T55 Torx and some bedliner spray. Once the bolts are out or loose, you can literally lift up the bed with one arm it's so light. Part of this time was digging out the bed liner spray in the bolt holes with a flathead screwdriver so the bit would fit. That bedliner is pure junk, it comes off pretty easy. I used blue loctite on the bolts and torqued to 55lbs, I had planned to go 60 like someone else did but at 50 I was barely able to go more, might just be my wrench. Then I placed cardboard with a hole over the screws and sprayed them with bedliner spray. Looks like new.

Not saying to follow my example if you want to adjust it yourself, again, I have no idea what I'm doing. Just adding info to the thread.

perfect picture, thats exactly what I was trying to convey when I said "gun sights"
Yours is very minimal compared to some ive seen 1-2" on some.
    when I was rambling....
Most of them are mis-aligned, some worse than other, some not at all....
Talked to my writer, common issue even previous gens....

Were just being more observant due to what we are paying....
