I used to be into the muscle/classic car thing. It kinda faded over the years, sometimes nostalgia is best left in the past. Made a little bit of money off those things, but it also was a ton of work.

There was a movie years ago about a young man who held onto to his prized possessions until his senior years and finally became rich. Can’t remember the name of it.

My dad came down with MS in the mid late 70s, so the Stingray never happened, was going to buy him one, but became too ill to drive it. When he was in better health I did put a set of hand controls on one of the ‘71 Chevelles I had so he could drive it, he loved that. Ended up selling everything to go to school, then started buying cheap Toyotas to run around in. Now look at them! Not the cheap practical pick-em-up anymore. Lol!

Some people have more money than brains and you sound a little dramatic.

My guess is that the Daihatsu safety scandal has a lot of eyes on Toyota right now. Given that Daihatsu is Toyota owned, execs probably went back and forth between the companies.

I think it was mostly the Cummins scandal and penalty.

It's hard to say, but if I were a regulator I would want to know if the execs in charge of safety at Daihatsu ended up in charge of anything at Toyota (like emissions control), along with any other managers that may have been involved.

Sometimes this place astounds me. Can anyone thinking negative on the above post give legitimate answers to these questions -

Instead of MSRP + markup, and then complaining that the markups are 'garbage' moves by the dealers, what would you say if the parking lot MSRP was instead <old MSRP+markup> ? So instead of a 49k truck + 2k arbitrary markup the price for you would just show 51k as MSRP? Nothing changes in my scenario except the $ shown on the paper. Would you then say the buyer is dumb? He's paying the same price as before, but not getting the evil markup that made him seem reckless with his money. Or would you say he got a fair deal because his dealer didn't do a markup when "those scum dealers did that in the past"?

What if everyone attempting to purchase from any specific dealer or region said "NO" to any listed basic fluff markup? What would happen at that dealership? Don't reply with "well there will always be someone..." That's not my premise - specifically, what would change if no one bought specifically for the reason of the fluff markup?

Everyone seems to be leaning towards "the new mid sizes are getting expensive". Then there's a bunch of dealers that have / will do markups above msrp. If you keep allowing them to do it, then they will keep doing it no? Thereby making these new more expensive mids, even more expensive continually, which is complained about. Yet the criticism is for the above poster calling this out. What would prevent corporate from saying "hey, all this % of buyers gladly pay over msrp. What say we just bump msrp across the board. Then everyone pays more, we get the elevated income on ALL sales, but everyone thinks they aren't getting the fluff buffer added."

    1. You don't have to buy their overpriced truck. Noone is forcing you. You are free to tell the dealer to go fuck themselves.
    2. How someone else chooses how to spend their money is their business. It's their money, and their choice.
    3. It amazes me how many people on this site get upset because other people make choices different than theirs. The previous poster said to "tell the guy that everyone on TW hates him for making his choice". Are you suggesting that's normal healthy behavior? There is a ZERO percent chance everyone will agree with you on any one subject. So that mindset guarantees 100% you will always be upset. Seems like a miserable way to go through life to me, but it's your life and your choice.
    4. How I decide to spend my money is my choice and nobody else's. If someone tries to tell me what to do with my money, I will tell them to go fuck themselves.
Hopefully everyone here has an enjoyable day. I know I plan to.

Thanks for clearly and concisely answering the specific questions I posed

Where did I state I'm upset because his product choice was different than mine - whatever that was supposed to be? Are you stating I'm upset because I'd choose to spend less money than the mentioned buyer because he went in for it, just because it was a different price than my purchase? Please be specific in answering this exact question.

You keep stating 'you are free' and ' tries to tell me'. Well, my point is for this example (and keeps being on this site) - what happens when there's enough momentum of overpayers that it becomes the norm, and forces you / me to pay that extra? You are no longer free to shop around and pay less at a non-markup dealer. For no other reason than 'higher price'. When you have NO CHOICE (at some point everyone needs to do some service / purchase widget xyz), then to whom will you be all fuck off to... besides me who is trying to get everyone to help keep costs down and choices AVAILABLE in the future.

BTW - I'm quite non-miserable being as I retired in my late 40's, don't live near big city hell-holes, and come and go as I please on my acreage. I relinquish any attempts in the future to try and stop unwarranted price increases and mandated "choices" for consumers that ultimately affects everyone, as this might put me off enjoying playing in the snow today...
