My buddy just bought a grand highlander AWD brand new and recorded this noise while he turns right. Very weird and pretty Dam loud. He made appointment with dealer later this week but I’m puzzled on what could be causing this. Only does it while turning wheels to the right and accelerating. I’m thinking wheel bearing or drive axle. Any thoughts?

Strut mount bushings are quite common on the new generation of Toyotas. The grand has only been out for a few months but hopefully the part needed isnt too many days away.

Are you able to upload the audio file his was making? Mine is making the same noise. But, all I see is black plastic when I look under there. I am guessing that's the dust shield mentioned.

Was the dust shield damaged or distorted or in the way it comes from the factory it rubs against components? What did they do to fix it?

Yes, our Grand Highlander was purchased in November of '23. After 2000 miles it started knocking while accelerating from a low speed and turning sharply, with both left and right turns. Dealer confirmed the issue was the front axle, and is ordering a replacement part. I'll give an update after the repair.

And, I read about the same issue on another forum when I was investigating. I'll look for it and add it here too if I find it.

Also they found oil leaking from the oil pan. They determined it was a seal and replaced it.

    I hope this helps!
