So what exactly is going on with eco, sport and normal mode in the manual transmission? Typically in an auto, shift points are modified, but im shifting the truck.
Is this modifying the boost available?

On other vehicles, that mode opens up the exhaust, firms up suspension, gets very aggressive with automatic shifting, etc.

None of that happens on the Tacoma manual so I’m curious what it does, too.

I don’t know for sure, but I would assume some changes in engine timing, throttle sensitivity, etc. Things that make it feel faster/more sporty.

On the MT, I suspect the main or perhaps only effect is from changing the throttle curve aka throttle sensitivity. Maybe some tweaking of the electric steering assist, as well (i.e. less assist to make it feel "sporty").

    • Eco makes the throttle more numb, where 50% depression of the pedal correlates to 20% throttle plate opening, for example.
    • Normal is a linear response curve if we're so blessed by the manufacturer.
    • Sport makes the throttle more twitchy, opposite of eco.
