I know this issue was brought up before with the 2024 but I wanted to confirm that A TRAC is standard on all 4wd Tacomas - currently it's not listed as a feature anywhere I can find, which is in distinct contrast to the 4runner where it is explicitly mentioned in the 4x4 specs.

    Am I missing it somewhere?

both basically the same thing. They work by using the brakes to stop spin and send torque to other wheels.

MTS just lets you select specific behavior that is used for different types of terrain; it still functions the same way that ATRAC does.

I don't think it is standard on all models? It was only in the TRD models before. Now the Pro/TH and OR autos get MTS , but I don't think lower models or manuals have a-trac

Prerunner doesn't have it either. I could have sworn it did when it was announced. Maybe faulty memory cells:

After digging around in my manual and finding references only to TRAC rather than A-TRAC, I did some googling. I found an article that said TRAC is just the normal traction control everybody gets and A-TRAC is a "more advanced" version that works only in 4LO. It had a list of specific models that had it, but it was written in 2018 and listed some 5G 4Runners along with just a couple 3G Tacomas.

Since its a 2 wheel drive it's highly doubtful it would.

Importantly, TRAC is also disabled in 4LO.

Toyota people at press events mentioned in videos it's built-in in all the 4x4 models.

Won’t believe til I see it written somewhere. A-Trac has never been available on lower end Tacomas.

A-Trac is basically a dumber version of MTS without the ability to adjust the slip ratio. A-Trac is effectively the same as MTS in "rock" mode in 4low. 3rd gen OR manual transmission models had A-Trac, while OR automatics had MTS (and Crawl Control).

I've heard the praises of it, but I hate the damn sound of the ABS motor going nuts.

I'd rather spin my open diffs.

Previously it was a technical limitation where models with the vacuum booster couldn't generate enough clamping force to brake a wheel in 4low while you're on the throttle. 4Runner and FJ had the electric booster on all trims, so A-Trac was present on all trims.

Because of the turbo, 4th gen has a powerful vacuum pump in all trims to feed the vacuum booster, so A-Trac can be enabled on all trims. Competing systems in Ford, Jeep, Land Rover, etc. don't require a button to activate, so Toyota followed along.

If that is the only reference I would not cosider it a reputable source. But when the 2024 came out I swear someone posted documentation. But now I can't find it. It seems pertinent since a locker is no longer an option with Xtracab.

And yes I know it's a marginal substitute, I have a 2nd gen off road with A-TRAC and locker...

Again, show me documentation that 4LO is not open diff in a 2025 SR5. I don’t doubt that it is possible, but that is not the same as implemented.

Don't remember what they said, but it isn't currently available on the SR5 4WD (see screenshot several posts above). Unless you can find it and correct that.

I can testify in all conditions you won't hear it. Gone is that machine gun chatter.

It's in the very first press release: https://pressroom.toyota.com/2024-toyota-tacoma-is-the-ultimate-adventure-machine/
Demonstrated on a Limited with no MTS or crawl modes:

    Demonstrated on an SR5:

Ah ok. So it seems like yes all 4wd models (even SR?) have it. It's still curious that it's listed in the 4runner specs but not the Tacoma.
