I think the better car dealers are getting away from that old style process. When l bought my Tacoma there were only a few signatures total, including the Title of my Trade, State Tax, and License Plate transfer so it was quite painless.

    I agree 100% with that!
The hybrids can stuff the batteries anywhere including where the spare tire normally goes.
The full Tacoma EV will have a totally different frame. Body will be same but frame will be different for sure.

I think the frame will be stronger and the pics indicate a rear link suspension. Most likely on the ICE versions also. Leaf Springs have lived too long a life on non commercial pickups. If so, I see rear disk brakes on all next Gen Tacomas. IMHO

Nobody, but try and convince enough new car buyers that they simply don't need more than 50 miles of actual range all year round? Its BEV range wars buddy! Whomever gets the best range wins. Just like it all too often is with; HP, torque, towing capacity, payload, 0-60 times etc etc.

My idea: A hybrid with a regular gas motor and an electric motor in each front wheel. Could be used as assistance to the gas motor like a regular hybrid and used for 4WD when needed and for regen braking. This would eliminate all the 4WD stuff to compensate for the battery/motor weight. Upgraded batteries for long wheeling trips.
There is a high end "Stealth" hunting golf cart type thing called a "Bad Boy Buggy" that works like this.

The following link is to an interview with Gill Pratt who is the chief scientist of Toyota Motor Corp and the CEO of Toyota Research Institute. He spends a lot of time talking about the future of electrification of Toyota vehicles and then spends some time on hydrogen fuel cell vehicles and robotics. Although he doesn't give a lot of details about the time lines, at least you can trust everything he says about the future of Toyota as being accurate without any speculation or guessing. Hope some of you will find this interesting as I did.

Zero desire. Just bought another ICE vehicle. Will not be moving to EV.

So really interesting interview. Thanks for sharing. The point made about heavy unused battery , and the carbon cost of such, struck me. So the larger battery you have, if unused, the less benefit of the EV. The point of weight of car vs people it carries seems like it is not being addressed (3500 + # car to move 200-400 #). I wonder what is being done re mass carbon fiber production to reduce car weight.

A PHEV Tacoma seems the perfect compromise for me...in about 10 years. In the interim I will get a Prius or an efficient ICE (hello used Mazda 3 hatch) for most of my DD.

    Fair enough.

I think blackberry was still selling phones until like 2020 or so. Probably many years left for just about any gas car still.

Hey did we ever come to a consensus on the whole cell phones cause Brian tumors thing ? Yeah dude scary times with this new tech stuff … stay safe y’all … don’t forget to switch over to the 0w20 for that winter oil blend .

I don’t know who Brian is :) but cell phones and brain tumors are an interesting example here.
    https://publichealth.berkeley.edu/news-media/research-highlights/meta-analysis-shows-increased-risk-of-tumors-for-cell-phone-users/

Those old enough remember when the fda recommended we all eat lots of carbs prior to the onset of our obesity epidemic. Going back further, the fda refuses to this day to list a RDA for sugar due to lobbying by the sugar lobby. Go back further to the 50s and 60s and see he FDA knowingly ignored the data w lung cancer and smoking. A lot of public policy is based on the interface of politics, business, and science. I’ve lived long enough to tell you I never saw or heard of brain tumors in the first 40 years of my life . In the last decade however I have left had a neighbor , spouses of 2 friends, and a work colleague die or be diagnosed w glioblastoma. Something is up w brain tumors , who knows what. I use a lot of speakerphone nowadays.
