So, ill do a few run on sentences with bad punctuation …lol. I managed to hold off buying a new 24, for a few reasons, but after doing research im going to purchase a Hybrid for 25.
This years release was very slim ,however im guessing we will see more production this upcoming year, then im just going to place order at dealership for a “Mesquite Brown TRD Offroad. What do you guys think ? More Hybrid availability this coming year ?

Hybrid production should be way up next year. Mesquite Brown is the big question?

My bet is that Toyo is going to make little or no changes to the 25 - or maybe re-badging the door handles. They're still suffering with supply chain issues.

Isn’t Mud Bath going to be a 2025 Pro exclusive color? If so, then Mud Bath should be available on other Tacoma trims in 2026.

    1. Hybrid cars have always struck me as a bit disposable. Lithium ion batteries degrade with time, regardless of whether you use them. Replacing them is massively expensive. All of the electronics in the hybrid system are just more things that can break and they're each stupidly expensive.

    2. The non-hybrid Tacoma has oodles of power. Have you driven one? Did you try "Sport" mode? The hybrid engine adds more low-end torque, but I just don't see why I'd need it.

    3. I *would* have been interested in a hybrid if Toyota had used it to get the truck's mileage to 30mpg. (I think they may do that with the mid-generation refresh of the 4th gen given that the Ford Maverick seems to be doing well and gets 42mpg). Stone me all you want, but 97% of my driving is just around town A-to-B trips that would really benefit from more than 18mpg.

To answer your question though: what was different from 2016 to 2017? Or from 2005 to 2006? Very little. I think you'd have to wait until 2029 to see any significant deviations from the 2024 model year.

What makes you want the hybrid if that's what you want? Trailhunter and Pro you have to get the hybrid, and you probably want the extra torque on both of those trucks. I would like the addition torque, the larger brakes and larger rear. Would I choose the hybrid over the same non hybrid truck IDK? If I wanted more power I could go with a bigger truck that puts out more power gas, diesel, or hybrid. If I want the Tacoma and want or need the extra power Tacoma puts out the most torque.

Hybrid related I don't expect to see the Super Duty hybrid until 2028. If 2026 will just be a refresh I don't see Ford rushing this product there isn't any competition in the hybrid HD pick up market and their will probably be issues if Ford takes their time.

Drove both the hybrid and non-hybrid last week. I certainly noticed the difference. From a stop, the hybrid pulled hard and I was not in the pedal at all and overall smoother feel from the hybrid. List price difference is $2250 which is not terrible. Lack of improved MPG looks to be the biggest downfall of the hybrid. I am kinda torn between the 2, but leaning towards the hybrid at this point. I have had at least one Toyota hybrid in the stable for 20 years and have had no issues with electronics or battery degradation on either nickel metal or lithium-ion. Not worried about hybrid failure from Toyota.

Toyota hybrid systems have proven to very rugged, reliable, and long lived. Look at all the old Priuses and hybrid everything else rolling around just fine, totally used and abused with hardly anybody complaining.

On the bright side, if you do manage to party your traction battery out, it's not very big. It probably won't be horrifically expensive to replace.

    Nope.
Ford hybrid lightning truck goes 157 at tow capacity.
    Welcome to the new world.

Battery powered trucks have limited range.
Range of the truck at full load is only 157 miles. No thanks.

I think Toyota missed the mark on Tacoma and Tundra hybridization but will wait and see what the numbers say for the Tacoma. If the real-world MPG gain is <2, its frankly a waste of resources, IMO. You're just lugging around another 600 lbs of battery and copper for starting line pop you really dont need. Curious to see MPG numbers next year.

The hybrids were so late in rolling out, you might consider ‘25’s as first-year efforts.

If Gen3 cleared most hurdles by 2018, then Gen4 definitely makes a case for “do not open until 2026”
