So clearly the Holcomb valley ranch idea is out due to the price point so lets move on to other options.

There’s a fair amount of dispersed options around, some of which we can get some bigger groups into. There’s also still other camp grounds, though I’d prefer the dispersed option personally. I just need to start developing a head count as to who still wants to come up to develop options

As for those with trailers, you might be SOL on this one unless you’re willing to abandon the trailers or offroad with then a little bit, but if I can accommodate you I will

    this trip isn’t dead

I don't care if I have to sleep in a Wendy's parking lot, I still plan on camping that weekend!

Nah we’ll have a much cooler location than a Wendy’s parking lot

I'm genuinely confused by people that own offroad rigs with thousands in aftermarket equipment and take $100 per tank of gas....being turned off by $150 for 2 nights of camping. Yeah its more than San G (which is amazingly underpriced) but it's still less than any of us would spend on food for the weekend. Its just about the smallest charge of this weekend, even at the increased Holcomb price.

There’s a variety of reasons that could explain this but some of the bigger ones I’ve seen is its not in everyone’s budget. Just because they can afford the fuel and the food (which really doesn’t cost that much) doesn’t mean they have the extra expendable funds to spend on a camp site. That $75 a night deal also only covers 2 people in 1 truck. If you have a bigger family that can easily climb to $150 a night. At that price point its easy to start saying screw camping and start looking into hotel/cabin stays as they are similar in price sometimes.

Another view point (one that I share) is why pay to camp? Camping is just paying a bunch of money on gear to pretend you’re homeless for the weekend. Now I have to spend extra money to use that expensive gear to pretend I’m homeless? I’m good on that. I honestly only attend this event because I love you all and want to see you

Lastly all that money spent on gear is a return investment. You get to use that gear on hundreds of trips over several years depending how you are with keeping vehicles. A weekend of camping is just that, a weekend of camping. No point in overspending

Regardless though, the whole point of this trip is to come together as a family and hang out, just because a camp ground got closed doesn’t mean it can’t happen. I’m talking with some of the Tundra folks to see what they’re planning and trying to coordinate something. I’ll do the leg work here but I need you guys to speak up if you still want to come up here at all or not. All this talking about it is pointless if you guys don’t come

I think we've got at least eight in the Tundras group staying at Holcomb Valley Ranch. It would be nice if more of y'all join us. Buddy up two dudes in a site, split the cost and it makes it more reasonable. Two adults are $75 a night. Split that amongst the two of you and that's $37 per night. Buddy up three dudes and it's a little bit cheaper than that. Yeah, it's "boutique" camping, but we'll be able to have fires and there's some certainty rather than wasting gas and hoping you find a halfway decent spot.

I couldn’t agree more Kyle! And thanks for putting in the time to work on a backup plan for those of us who still want to make the best of it.

So I got ahold of Ed at HVR and like it was previously stated its about $275 for a group spot with 10 person minimum which is $27.50 a night per person and $25 for each additional person which really isn’t that bad. He also said if there are a bunch of us he can try to discount us further, I just need a legitimate number of people to bring to him.

So who’s in? This is a great spot with lots of bathrooms and hot showers. Trailer accessible. Its also secure and the kind of place we can have fires and be as loud as we want all night long. Its also in the heart of Holcomb Valley so we’re right next to the trails.

If any of you have heard of Pure 4x4 Base Camp this is where they host it.

My refund came in yesterday. Yours will hit, they’re not re-opening San G for next weekend.

As of now the north side of the lake is still open, that’s where most the trails are as well.
Perhaps half (or more) of the people going are reserving spots (and sharing spots) at Holcomb Valley Ranch.
