Don't use Facebook and can't tell by looking at your screenshot, "more active" or more users? A couple people complaining a lot or are there a lot of people complaining?

Paint damage on the Pro looks like a carwash issue and that would have damaged the paint on any vehicle.

Yeah I don't care that he brings his other cars there or not. That looks like sandpaper hit the truck. Something happened in the car wash for sure.

The thread went on about others having similar paint issues. There's just more 4th gen owners in those groups than on here and thus more issues reported there than I see here.

Its Terra, no FJ had that door trim or black painted door handles.

Probably a combination of dirty ass brushes or whatever those things are (never catch me in even a touchless one) and shit paint job from Toyota. It’s not just one area it’s all the black edges, guessing the paint is real thin on those areas. Nothing like buying a $70k truck that is offroad geared that can’t make it through a car wash without looking clapped out. I’d be pissed too.

No. Nothing in reading official and solid data is ignorant. Same for the points on logical fallacies here. My niche was and is the new vehicle market, and the spot a 2024 Tacoma fits in it. It is impossible for me to see those assertions dropping the ball just from comparison shopping and hands on testing like it is calling out 4 of 170,000+ vehicles.

Keep in mind my 1999 and 2015 Toyota experiences for your other post. Add that one of my work sites had gen 2 and 3 in the fleet. That Facebook group is posting things no different than those well respected prior generations. The contractor I mentioned in another post with his early gen 3 has less than ideal white paint and now with a better understanding of gen 4 will be repeating it.

Our grey Sienna was prone to paint scuffs and wear too.

Many of us are not going to be buying old vehicles or vehicles without top safety test results. Also only going to be buying what fits our needs. That makes gen 4 a best choice. Now data supports it being a quality choice.

Additionally, my prior generation Toyotas while newer ones existed never prompted me go into some sort of parochial behavior over it. The 2 generations old Outback in our driveway doesn't prompt my Outback forum membership to troll and disparage the newer models.

Is the rear-end frame damage a real concern with the new trucks? If so, sounds like another design shortcoming.

Basically if it get rear ended the frame is toast, a whole new frame will be needed.

I'm not sure why you quoted me, the subject I was addressing was transmission failures.

When you see transmission failures on FB after the middle of September, I'd be interested to know.

You said this forum is the default google site and were most would report problems, I was simply stating I have seen the opposite, most new owners are in the FB groups and seeing more reported there.

No one is trolling, I have owned 13 of these trucks in all gens besides 4th and plan on owning another and 4th gen. I am just a bit hestitant seeing the issues I have seen with build quality, etc. not only in the groups but from the few I've had a deposit on, test drove and decided to wait. I was one of the first idiots on here who was willing to pay ADM for one back in Jan, screenshots of my allocation were all over the other forum and in groups that was then delayed and then I decided to pause.

I don't think it's entirely Toyota cutting corners or the 4th gen is trash, its a good evolution of the truck minus some things but also think there are clear issues with suppliers and production across everything as of late and Toyota being no exception. We also had a deposit on a GX550 for my wife and decided to wait cause of similar issues, rattling plastics, hood flutter, etc. and got her a 23 GX460 instead but we still plan on a 550 hopefully in the future.

I get where you are coming from in your background and living in the data. No vehicle is without flaw or perfect including prior gens of these trucks, but Im not gonna just say its amazing and flawless when there clearly may be issues with quality, design aspects, etc. and as a consumer I feel its in my best interest to wait it out and see, we are in no rush both our vehicles are paid for, it's just a bit disheartening seeing some of the issues but so was the 2nd gen frames, the peeling white paint (as you mentioned) and other things we've all seen and experienced over the years. Time will tell how this gen pans out and hopefully just as long lived and reliable as the prior gens despite each's known issues.

I get it and also how he misses the whole market, the time, inflation, and the alternatives.

I'm not so sure Toyota missed it with that new model when I know the history of some happy owners. Owners who've had classic Land Cruisers and Rovers plus who looked at alternatives including the Ineos rigs.

Maybe what is missing in a lot of comparisons here is that most who are in the new vehicle market are looking at contemporary new vehicle offerings. In this case all of us have plenty of nostalgia and appreciation for rigs we had in the past but not after those. No Stellantis, Rover, Ineos, Ford or GM offering are quite like strong aspects in the Toyota TGNA-F offerings.

We don't know the exact number because Toyota hasn't released that information. Car and Driver reported the number to be "less than thousands", so it could be as high as 1,999. Still, a low number.

Not everyone on this forum owns a 4th gen Tacoma. The number of complaints on the NHTSA was at 56 a few days back, and we know that isn't a good number.

I'm not sure how this forever vulnerability of the build type is a TGNA-F Toyota problem. It was there with a 1980s F250 I had. A friend's late model heavy duty GM pickup was rear ended in recent storm and bent frame occurred now complicating his problem resolution.
The VIN range for the TSB is out there.

Two weeks ago with my first service I stood at the dealer's screen as they were looking up the clearly known to some of us infotainment and bluetooth bugginess. They also looked to make sure my rig was not in TSBs or the transmission matter. Their screens showed VIN ranges.

The management guy supported what my recently retired cousin who did large dealer chain warranty and labor reimbursement management would say. Among all their brands, Toyota is at the find and fix vs deny end of the spectrum. In another post I paraphrased what that senior service mgmt guy said that so far nothing in their 20+ dealerships with many brands is making this new generation stand out as problematic.

Of course I'll be disappointed if I have a problem but the Toyota record is confidence inspiring among the peers.

Did you read them against the competition? It helped me choose the Tacoma for the lack of recalls and for the lack of more serious matters for competitors. Nothing perfect existed.
