Working on it. the 5160's are on backorder at Headstrong. I'm trying to convince myself to just :spending: and get the the low or mid level Fox or Icon. Buy once, cry once. I know that whatever I end up doing will be an improvement over my beat to piss stock shocks.

    @Blue Canary

Fox and Kings are no doubt better than Emu or Bilstein etc. I'm sure of that.

But no one has ever given me a legitimate reason as to why I would "need" Fox or King.

That being said... I definitely WANT Fox or Kings... But I "need" skids, and sliders, and better tires, and a matching spare, and a whole bunch of other shit before I'll ever pull the trigger on better (than Bilstein) shocks.

The honest truth is Bilstein or Emu would be fine. More clearance and better than what you have shocks will be a big difference.

I LOVE my kings, but no doubt not NECESSARY. Go with what you can afford, even if you cry a little. For me I consider cost and real world application, will I use something a ton or just a little bit. With my set up I could afford it and I use my shocks everyday on some MASSIVE speed bumps

    She ain't stock anymore.
I think one of the big differences is rebuildable vs replaceable. And if you're going to be doing a lot of that fast desert driving like we did, I think reservoirs help in keeping things cooler and working as intended for longer. That's how I understand it at least.

    You definitely understand correctly.

The whole rebuildable vs replacable thing is a moot point to me though. The cost of rebuild vs replace is close enough to the same that it's not a selling point to me.

The reserviors are definitely a plus. I've experienced shock fade a few times with my 5100s (one of the reasons I "want" Fox or Kings).

I just don't think Larry "has" to get anything more than Bilstein or Emu... Unless he (and the Mrs) are comfortable with that expenditure.

To clairify. I am absolutely not trying to talk anyone out of buying Fox or King. But I also know the keeping up with the Jones' of Tacomaworld often has a hipnotic effect when making these purchases lol.

Thanks for your input guys. I can go down the gear-head rabbit hole easy enough. It makes sense to keep the lift $$ modest and use some for under body protection. The take-away that we had from this weekend is to try to keep things as light as possible.

The other thing @Blue Canary... You were a huge help on my 4x swap, and I owe you. My garage is open and I will make time to help you with your lift... And I will be pissed if you don't let me :quickdraw:

No worries :fistbump: It was a pleasure to scrape knuckles with you all. It most certainly made me think of how much I miss having a garage. Thanks for offering yours up, it truly is a service to the community.
We need to get your truck out and see what it can do :muscleflexing:really soon even if it is FR or HH.

They say buy once cry once, im usually an advocate of that mentality.

But... That shit is EXPENSIVE lol

Im just setting my self up for the long haul. I plan to use OME stuff for at least a couple of years while i pay off the truck and build up some other components. Eventually, ill wind up at the big decisions of regear/lockers, 35s and some high end suspension and ill see where im at in life at that point.

Proves my truck and stock shocks didn’t shit the bed. And they are nerds. We were bombing down the road to the racetrack. Something about not wanting to do Lippencot in the dark.
