209 TACOS - B/S and shenanigans

So far I've kind of had to figure it out for myself. Borrowed a buddies cheapo Harbor Frieght MIG welder with cheap wire... and a cheap welding helmet.

I worked out the adustments on the helmet so I can actually see what I'm doing. Now, I think I have the wire feed speed figured out, which will (hopefully) clean up my welds. (some of them look a lot like pigeon shit... good thing I'm not in a hurry and I'm handy with a grinder)I'm also going to buy some better wire before I start welding on the legs of the rack... that should help too.

 

My hats off to you, for just doing it. This is what I need to do.

 

Finally! A 209 thread! lol sorry i'm late to the party. I've been hanging out with 916 heads as I haven't met many taco owners from our area. Anyone down for a meet soon?

For anyone who needs it I have a spring compressor, doesn’t work with coilovers, but beyond that I can help

 

I've been keeping you in mind since you said you had that thing. I plan on changing to OME 882s before summer... and I don't want to do this again.

 

I tried using these on my coilover. Didn’t work needless to say. Took them to a shop in town and owner let me use wall mounted spring compressor.

 

They are a bitch... even on the stock coils. Once I got them compressed and on my Bilsteins, I had to use a crow bar to pry the coils apart to get the compressor back out of the coil.

 

Agreed, every time I see these things I get flash backs of when I tried to use them. Never again

 

Well... the "Made in Mexico" rack for El Taco Diablo is coming along.


I promise I didn't line it up that way on purpose. Didn't even notice it till my wife saw that and started laughing at me.

The entire top is completely done and ground down. I'm not particularly impressed with my welding but hey, gotta start somewhere... It's definately strong enough, just wish my welds looked more like what you find on a tube chasis on a race car (lmfao).

All the legs are cut and ready. I'll mock the rack back up after work tomorrow, and weld the legs. Should be sportting a RTT rack (with no tent, lol) by saturday evening.

Ordered an LED light to wire up as a high mount on the back cross bar because the one on the cab will be obscured... (not having a truck with no high mount when I drive that stupid shit on 99 every morning and afternoon)

 

So who is down for tacos in Modesto this weekend? I dont know where or when though, lets figure it out. I’m coming from Merced County so I figured Modesto would be somewhere in the middle. People keep talking about meeting up, well lets make it happen.

Me too. I know it’s short notice by standards but it’s only Tacos. Shouldn’t be too hard to figure out. We just need someone from up there to pick a location, any location. We will show up. Come on Modesto peeps, pick a taco spot for us to meet.

My main go to Taco spot is La Perla Tapatia here in Hughson. But I'll bet no one wants to come to my po-dunk little town lol.
