I was notified by Toyota about this in either June or July of 2020 and definitely read a few threads floating around about it. I called a couple dealerships and was told because it was a TSB and not an official recall they would not touch it unless I threw the engine codes. As most of us have done, I have just been running the unifilter mod to eliminate the disintegrating foam issue.

Today I went to purchase my tags and AAA would not release them to me because their system showed there was an outstanding emission recall on my truck. You will also incur a fee if you do not have this addressed by the dealership and present a special certificate to AAA showing that the work was performed by the time your current registration ends. I immediately drove to the dealership and told them I could not receive my tags and they quickly flipped their position and were more than happy to locate/order the parts covered under the
20TC01 Special Service Campaign. Still waiting to hear back from the dealership on when they can get me in, luckily I have a couple weeks before my registration ends.

So if you are in California, affected by the 20TC01 and told that you did not have to have this addressed unless you are experiencing the engine codes, you will be unable to renew your registration until you show AAA the dealer certificate showing that the recall was addressed.

I actually just bought a truck and looking at the service record it has already had this work done. :kona:

I’ve never seen or heard of a case where the Secondary Air Injection Filter caused an engine failure.
It can/has caused the engine to go into limp mode. AKA: reduced power mode.
This renders the truck pretty much useless until the problem is fixed. The fix isn’t a whole new engine.

Why did you have the engine rebuilt replaced?
    What was the reason?

seized AC compressor -> tearing belts -> overheating d/t non spinning engine fan/water pump -> engine rebuild ≠ air injection valve.

Nothing between those two is correlated unfortunately. Just bad luck for you, my friend.

    What he said ^

The Air Injection pump is electrically operated. The belt has nothing to do with it.
Fix the compressor and inspect your idlers/pulleys and tensioner while the belt is off.

+1 on this recall stopping me from getting new tags this year!
I did the Unifilter mod in 2014... nice of Toyota and CA to catch up with the times almost a decade later
My clock is ticking until the end of April... hoping the DMV and dealer will be quick as its my one and only DD :anonymous:

I gotta get this done now. My 2012 threw this code this afternoon. I have 205,033 on the clock.

Hoping Toyota cooperates nicely along with mileage and their replace it without any issue. Last time I dealt with Toyota was with the Clockspring going bad on my 2006 Taco. There was a Recall on it, but only for specific vins and mine happened to not be apart of it even though I had the same issues arise that included the airbag and cruise control going out.
